PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Work with school faculty and
staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement,
and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and
counseling program at school assigned. Counsel students to
fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and
social abilities and address the needs of special population
students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in guidance
counseling
Valid Texas counseling
certificate
Special
Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling
procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational,
communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and
manage their behavior

Two years teaching

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND
DUTIES
GUIDANCE
1.
Assist students in evaluating
their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of
individual and standardized test scores and other pertinent
data, and work with students in evolving educational and
occupational plans in terms of such evaluation.
2.
Be responsible for the orientation of all new
students.
3.
Assist parents in developing realistic
perceptions about their children's aptitudes, abilities,
interests and development.
4.
Remain readily available to students so as to
provide counseling that will lead each student to increased
personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
CONSULTATION
5.
Assist teachers with conducting guidance discussions with
student groups.
6.
Provide individual counseling for students.
7.
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators,
and other relevant people to enhance
their work with students.
8.
Work with school and community personnel
to bring together resources for students.
9.
Maintain a communication system that effectively
collects and disseminates information to other professionals as
appropriate.
10.
Assist administrators, teachers, employer,
and others in the preparation and dissemination of occupational
information to students.
11.
Develop and maintain positive working
relationships with other school professionals and
representatives of community resources.
12.
Take an active role in interpreting the school's
objectives to students, parents, and the
community at large.
13.
Maintain student confidentiality in
accordance with student and school safety.
ASSESSMENT
14.
Organize the planning and evaluation of campus
standardized testing program.
15.
Work with school personnel in the testing
program by assuming responsibility for the administration and
interpretation of test instruments.
16.
Interpret tests and other appraisal results
appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students,
and their parents.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
17.
Educate the school staff, parents, and community
about the guidance program through a public information
program.
18.
Plan, implement, and evaluate the guidance
program and recommend program changes based on the
findings.
19.
Interpret, and help maintain attendance records,
cumulative progress records, activity records, and transcript
records for students and parents.
ADMINISTRATION
20.
Be responsible for the day to day administration
of the elementary school in the absence of both the Elementary
School Principal and Elementary School Assistant
Principal.
21.
Serve as the Campus Test Coordinator and Test
Security Officer.
22.
Perform other duties as assigned by the
principal or superintendent.
23.
Comply with policies established by federal and
state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in
guidance and counseling area.
24.
Comply with all district and campus routines and
regulations.
25.
Maintain a positive and effective relationship
with supervisors.
26.
Communicate effectively with colleagues,
students, and parents.

EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be
evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the
board's policy on evaluation of
professional personnel.
Terms of Employment:
205 days, salary schedule as recommended by the Superintendent
and approved by the Board.
