Director of Professional Learning and Instruction

DEPARTMENT:

Teaching & Learning

REPORTS TO:

Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services

OVERALL DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Professional Learning is responsible for the design and implementation of system-wide professional learning for
certified staff consistent with the District’s vision and aligned to District, State,  and National goals. This position leads the instructional coaching program and collaborates with staff within and outside of Learning Services to implement a range of professional learning opportunities that meet the needs of certified staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Leads effective instructional effort in conjunction with the teacher evaluation program.
·         Co-supervises the Learning Support Coach Program
·         Collaborates with Learning Services, Instructional Technology, Pupil Services, and Assessment Department to design and implement K-12 Professional Learning.
·         Works with educators and administrators to develop research-based, collaborative, data informed professional learning that meets administrators and teachers’ professional growth needs.
·         Works with educators and administrators to implement a research based program of induction and mentoring.
·         Assists in recruiting and selecting Learning Support Coaches.
·         Provides Learning Support Coaches with professional learning in instructional practices and instructional coaching.
·         Assists in planning professional learning for new teachers.
·         Ensures that coaching, mentoring, and other professional learning activities support the district’s vision and strategic goals.
·         Networks with other school districts to share knowledge and maximize resources.
·         Seeks and administers grants to support professional learning activities.
·         Evaluates effectiveness of professional learning activities and recommends improvements.
·         Provides highly visible leadership and support for professional learning.
·         Assures the alignment of the district’s professional learning program with Illinois certification requirements.
·         Maintains up-to-date knowledge of professional learning practices, standards, and instructional practices.
·         Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


·         Illinois Teaching Certificate.
·         Type 75 Certification required.

·         Miminim 5 years successful public school teaching experience
·         Working knowledge of research and best practices in professional learning
·         Experience in mentoring and/or induction of new educators
·         Evidence of ability to manage teams and work independently through past job experience and achievement
·         Familiarity with Illinois and Common Core State standards
·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills
·         Knowledge of instructional coaching models
·         Knowledgeable about adult learning theory and practice
·         Such other qualifications as may be determined by Superintendent or Board of Education

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

260 day Administrator’s contract, salary and benefits established annually by the Board of Education.
