Director, College and Career Readiness

Primary Purpose:

Manages and directs college and career readiness programs to meet student needs. Oversees district counseling services.  Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions and departments and provides direction as needed.  Serve as instructional leader in development and improvement of instructional programs relating to counseling, college and career programs.

Qualifications (Experience/ Education/Certification):

Master's degree, administrator and/or counselor certification, three to five years experience as a classroom teacher.  Counseling experience preferred.  Administrative experience preferred.  Must possess valid teaching certification.

Major Responsibilities:

·           Coordinates, develops, and implements a comprehensive guidance curriculum for K-12

·           Supports K-12 Counselors in all endeavors and advocates for district counseling program

·           Coordinates District Lead Counselors for Elementary and Middle School and Campus Lead Counselors for High School

·           Coordinates, develops, and implements a comprehensive career and college readiness program for K-12

·           Supervises Coordinator of Advanced Academics and Gifted and Talented Education

·           Collaborates with principals on the school counseling efforts to positively impact student achievement and postsecondary planning

·           Collaborates with others the ways the school counseling program can support instructional strategies and integrate guidance curriculum within the district's academic curricula

·           Coordinates with campus counselors for the administration of the PSAT and AP tests and the utilization of test results

·           Uses and helps others to use district, school and student data appropriately in interpreting, reporting and acting on results

·           Develops partnerships with non-district personnel and institutions to augment the resources available to students through the school counseling program including, but not limited to, dual credit opportunities, institutions of higher education, college/career fairs, and financial aid events

·           Conducts and arranges for professional development activities which support best practices within school counseling and career and college readiness

·           Assists principals in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of school counselors

·           Supervises the AVID program

·           Develops College and Career Pathways unique to the needs of each high school in collaboration with the campus staff, community input and labor market demands to develop coherent sequences of courses in multiple areas

·           Regularly consults with the campuses about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of College and Career pathways/coursework

·           Creates and maintains a college readiness website for the District

·           Directs College Readiness events

·           Collaborates with HS campuses and Central Office to create an Evening High School Program for students

·           Oversees the District's participation in academic competitions, K-12

·           Collaborates with postsecondary institutions for articulation of dual credit courses and serves as a liaison to higher education partners

·           Monitors and evaluates the District's graduation and completion rates

·           Builds common visions for program improvement with principal and staff at each campus; directing planning activities with staff to ensure attainment; identifies, analyzes, and applies research findings to promote College and Career Pathways

·           Performs other related duties as assigned

·           Conserves electricity as outlined in the district's energy management plan.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

§   Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, regarding career and technical education.

§   Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

§   Knowledge of current educational principles, practices and procedures in program development, staff training, instruction and assessing program needs in career and technical education.

§   Knowledge of budgetary management.

§   Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices.

§   Skill in communicating effectively with others including making oral and written presentations.

§   Proficient in computer applications and supporting equipment and software.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provides direction to designated personnel- central office and campuses

Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):

Prolonged use of computer; work regularly requires work outside the normal work week; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 30 lbs.
