Position Title: CICS ChicagoQuest Director of School Life

Reports to: CICS ChicagoQuest School Director

 

Background

CICS ChicagoQuest opened in September, 2011, with 6<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> graders. CICS ChicagoQuest is a priority program investment of The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and offers a rigorous, engaging, and interactive curriculum that is organized around systems-thinking and game design. This curriculum is content-rich and aligned with the Illinois State (soon to be Common Core) and College Readiness standards.

 

CICS ChicagoQuest will measure its success by our graduates' abilities to design creative solutions to complex problems, think critically and independently, collaborate effectively and productively, use technology purposefully and wisely, and explore, engage in, and express their interests and talents using multiple platforms and media. Our success also will be measured by our students' abilities to excel on the state and national assessments that determine access to selective post secondary options. We are committed to preparing all of our students to earn 4-year degrees at the college or university of their choice.

 

In addition to our families and communities, the MacArthur Foundation, and Quest to Learn (NY), ChicagoQuest is fortunate to be partnering with DePaul University, YouMedia (Chicago Public Library), the Digital Youth Network, the Institute for Play (NY), and the newly formed HIVE Chicago Learning Network.

 

ChicagoQuest Student Development Specialist

ChicagoQuest seeks a Director of Student Development to provide leadership and support for building a positive, relationship-based, school culture that is organized around supporting every student's success. 

 

The CQ Director of Student Development will report to the CQ School Director and will have responsibility for leading the development of rituals, routines, and language that reinforce school-wide identity, providing school and classroom-based supports for the development of community, co-creating a proactive framework for discipline that employs a restorative justice approach, supporting the integration of social-emotional learning throughout the curriculum, overseeing the provision of specialized social support services, co-leading the Response to Intervention Team, and collaborating with others to develop meaningful ways to engage families and community partners.  The ideal candidate will have proven leadership capacity and experience in creating school-wide approaches that support student development and academic success, leading student support teams, working closely with teachers, and supervising interns.

 

Experience

The Director of Student Development will have demonstrated some combination of experience:

  •  Serving on a school-wide leadership team
  • Leading RTI and Exceptional Needs teams
  • Developing proactive discipline approaches
  • Coaching/consulting with teachers to increase student success
  • Supervising Masters level interns
  • Designing and delivering effective social-emotional supports to students
  • Developing SEL curriculum
  • Developing effective ways to engage parents
  • Coordinating outside providers and case management

 

Qualities

The following qualities and skills will strengthen an applicant's candidacy:

  • Commitment to holding the highest standards of learning for every student
  • Strong collaborator able to lead and facilitate effective teams
  • Knowledge of best practices for social-emotional learning and student support
  • Capacity to lead at a school-wide level
  • Flexible thinker open to the use of technology and digital media to facilitate learning  
  • Critical friend able to provide constructive feedback that inspires and supports the improvement of practice

 

Credentials

The ideal candidate will have all of the following credentials:

  • Masters in School Social Work
  • License in Clinical Social Work
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in urban schools
  • At least 2 years experience in a school-based leadership or coordination role
  • Specialized training in SEL
