Description:
The Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School, a new Horace Mann charter school in Boston, will open in September 2012 with students in Grades K1 through 1, growing out each year until students reach Grade 5.
Job Summary:
DSNCS aspires to reimagine the traditional elementary school paradigm, developing a learning environment characterized by ambitious instruction and an integrated curricula for all children; collaborative teacher effort rooted in innovation, trust, and a commitment to professional learning; flexible use of time and space during the school day and year; organizing and sharing leadership in unique and powerful ways; and innovative thinking about relationships with families and community partners. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated the ability to drive dramatic academic success in urban, public school classrooms, and be energized by the notion of founding and leading an exemplary elementary school. The Arts Teacher will be responsible for getting students excited about artistic expression and exploration while working to ensure that the arts are infused across the curriculum and in our relationships with families.
Qualifications:
Massachusetts Teacher Certificate required: Visual Art: PreK-8, Dance, or Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General; dual licensure in ESL or Special Education preferred. Minimum of three years teaching experience in an urban public school setting.
Working Conditions:
DSNCS will operate 200 days per year, with programming scheduled from 7:30AM to 5:30PM. Yearly and daily teacher schedules will be staggered to maximize student and professional learning time.
