Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, Connecticut is currently seeking a Part Time Upper School Arabic Teacher for the 2012-2013 School Year. Convent of the Sacred Heart is an independent Catholic day school for 770 girls in grades PS-12 located in Greenwich, Connecticut. It is one of the oldest schools in a network of 22 American schools of the Sacred Heart.

Job Summary
The Upper School Arabic Teacher is responsible for providing
a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way
that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education
and the philosophy that implements it. The Arabic Teacher reports to the Head
of the Upper School and has the following responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Organizing
and providing developmentally appropriate educational programs and
instruction; planning and implementing curriculum in a coordinated fashion
according to the scope and sequence of the Arabic Studies program.
- Providing
activities and opportunities that encourage cultural curiosity,
grammatical exploration, and oral skills practice appropriate to the
developmental levels and learning styles of his/her students.
- Planning
and preparing supportive and caring classroom environment in which
students can learn and interact positively with one another; overseeing
instruction and authentic assessment;
- Interacting
with parents; maintaining open and cooperative communication with parents
and families, encouraging their involvement.
All teachers are expected:
· To assume serious collaborative
responsibility for the educational environment of the School by conducting
themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner
· To be available one week before the
opening of School to attend teachers’ meetings, etc., and to be available one
week after the Upper School’s graduation to attend teachers’ meetings and
complete end-of-year duties
· To attend all faculty meetings and
workshop days as they are scheduled during the year
· To assist at School functions
designated by the Head of School as necessary for the operation of the School,
e.g., Parents’ Night, Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc. It is
understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for
school
· To participate fully in regular
School programs, e.g., committees, assemblies, field trips, etc.
· To share in the planning and
direction of student activities and School programs, if appointed by the Head
of School
· To maintain high standards for
his/her on-going professional development and to participate in the
professional development programs offered by the School
· To assume responsibilities as
assigned for the supervision of students, including at times of early dismissal
due to inclement weather. It is understood that these duties may sometimes
extend beyond the normal hours for school
· To use technology effectively as
part of classroom instruction
· To interact positively with
colleagues in creating and imparting interdisciplinary units of study
·
To fulfill responsibilities as
assigned by the Upper School Head in regard to lunch and recess duty, car and
bus dismissal
Qualifications
The
ideal candidate will have a minimum of three-five years experience, a Bachelors
degree in Arabic or related field; teaching experience that is
directly related to the duties and responsibilities of his/her grade
assignment.
