Required
Professional Preparation and Experience:
- Previous
experience as Curriculum Director or work in curriculum, instruction &
assessment.
- Meet
requirements in Section 1246 of the Revised School Code concerning continued
education and administrator certification
- Master’s
degree in Curriculum & Instruction and/or Educational Leadership
- Three
or more years of administrative experience
- Three or more years work experience in classroom instruction and curriculum
development in an urban school district
- Excellent
written and oral communication skills
- Use
of data in decision making processes
- Documented
success in improving student achievement for a school district
- Proven
team member with ability to motivate others to higher levels of performance
- Highly
effective organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills
Primary
Function:
The
Director of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for administering the
District’s curriculum, instruction and assessment development, implementation
and improvement; work closely with the superintendent, administration, principals
and teachers to reach performance targets, carry out Board directives and provide
training and support; foster cooperation between building and central office
administration to ensure consistent application of Pre-K-12 curriculum; and
directly oversee the development of policies and procedures pertaining to the Pre-K-12
instructional program.
Oversee all instructional programs including: Advanced & Accelerated
Program, Alternative Education, Outdoor Education Center, General Education, Special
Education, and Math & Science Center.
Major
Responsibilities:
- Develop
implementation strategies to meet Board of Education policies and oversee
implementation ensuring the cooperation of teachers and administrators and
improvements in student academic achievement
- Assist
in the recruitment and recommendation for employment of all teachers,
supervisory and administrative personnel.
- Provide
framework and structure for continuous improvement model.
- Work
in collaboration with District Resource Development Coordinator, community
agencies and other education stakeholders to maximize all possible funding resources.
- Oversee
the preparation of applications and reports for special programs including
Bilingual, Title 1 Title II, Mathematics and Science Center, Section 31a, Special Education and Early Childhood Education.
- Identify
professional development opportunities to improve upon student performance and
implements programs to assure continuous improvement in such performance.
- Work
with District curriculum, instructional, assessment coordinators, and coaches.
- Perform
other duties as directed by the Superintendent.
Relationship to the
Curriculum:
- Work
with the Board of Education, Superintendent, Building Principals and Teachers
to identify district-wide curriculum needs, present educational findings or
trends and establish curricular and instructional performance targets for both
the short- and long-term.
- Provide
instructional leadership and guidance in planning and conducting curriculum
studies, evaluating textbook and other instructional material usage, reviewing
pilot operations and assessing staffing needs.
- Work
closely with and provide leadership to all building principals in the
implementation and operation of school improvement initiatives, curriculum and
instructional matters, school visitations, conferences and assignment of
interns and student teachers.
- Supervise
departments of subject area coordination, instructional technology, testing and
assessment and staff development including all staff
- Plan
and coordinate the development and implementation of the instructional budget
with the Superintendent.
Contract: 261 Work Days (12 Month Calendar)
