Summary
|
The Director of Special Education
is responsible for the implementation of Idaho
procedures for special education.
These duties include program
improvement activities, managing budgets, hiring
and evaluating personnel, providing training, and
problem-solving with staff.

Minimum
Qualifications:
|
Holds valid Exceptional Child
Certificate endorsed for Director of Special
Education
Ability to read, write,
calculate, speak, and reason at highly
professional levels
Ability to use technology to
communicate, summarize, maintain budgets, analyze
data, and present information.
|
|
Physical demands:

The duties of this job require
standing, walking, sitting, motor dexterity to
write, and use computers.. The employee is
required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, lift, and
carry up to 30 pounds.

The essential duties of the
Director of Special Education are typically
performed in office and school Some meetings may
take place outside of a school campus or at state
and regional meetings or trainings.

Performance
Responsibilities
:
·
Supervise the development, coordination, and
implementation of special education programs for all
students with disabilities
·
Conduct program evaluation activities to
ensure on-going use of data to continually improve special
education outcomes
·
Develop uniform procedures for student
referral, comprehensive evaluations, IEP development,
placement and review of student progress
·
Coordinate with other administrators to
assure integration of the special education program with
the total school program
·
Coordinate activities for paraprofessional
training
·
Coordinate activities for staff training
regarding state initiatives, including, but not limited
to:
Idaho-ALT, Highly Qualified Special
Education Teachers, Assistive Technology, SLD criteria,
non-biased assessment of diverse students, Positive
Behavior Supports
·
Serve as a consultant to IEP teams and MDT
teams
·
Chair IEP meetings that require significant
allocation of special education funds or conflict with
parents is anticipated
·
Interpret and implement State and Federal
guidelines for special education
·
Compile, submit, and maintain data relative
to programs for students with disabilities, e.g.: 60-day
Timeline, Senior Exit Survey, discipline reports, accurate
coding of students with disabilities in PowerSchool, Early
Childhood Transition Report, Medicaid Billing
·
Recruit personnel for open positions in
special education, interview, recommend qualified
personnel, and select personnel in cooperation with the
principal
·
Coordinate and conduct the annual
performance evaluations of all special education staff in
cooperation with the principal
·
Prepare special education budgets and
coordinate with the business office on accounting for
special education funds
·
Assist teachers and ancillary personnel in
using Part B funds to meet individual student needs
·
Coordinate Child Find activities
annually
·
Coordinate professional development
activities using Part B funds
·
Implement Extended School Year programs for
eligible students with disabilities
·
Consult with teachers, parents,
administrators, and community agencies to assist in solving
problems regarding students with disabilities
·
Coordinate special transportation needs of
students with disabilities with the transportation
supervisor
·
Meet with special education staff when
needed to provide information about changes in policy or
regulation or to provide training regarding new methods or
materials
·
Recommend policy and administrative
regulations to the superintendent of schools and other
administrators
·
Attend district administrative staff
meetings, school board meetings, and participate in
district initiatives, e.g.: McGrath
Lead with
Succeed

Walk-Throughs
, District Leadership Teams, District RTI
Team.
·
Administer the Homebound Program for
students who are unable to attend school because of illness
or accident
·
Assist the Superintendent with training for
substitutes
·
Assist the Superintendent with the
administration and implementation of the School Plus
Childcare Program.
·
Assume obligation for professional
growth
·
Assume other duties and responsibilities as
assigned by the superintendent
Evaluation
:
Performance will be evaluated by the
Superintendent of Schools
