About
E.L. Haynes Public Charter School
was founded in 2004 and has an award-winning program based on effective
practices for advancing student achievement. E.L. Haynes is among the top-performing
charter schools in Washington D.C., and is recognized locally and nationally as
a model and for our exceptional student achievement gains. E.L. Haynes
currently serves over 800 students in grades PreK-9 and continues to grow until
it serves PreK-12th grade.
Our Mission
Every E.L. Haynes student of every race, socioeconomic status, and home
language will reach high levels of academic achievement and be prepared to
succeed at the college of his or her choice. Every E.L. Haynes student will
be adept at mathematical reasoning, will use scientific methods effectively to
frame and solve problems, and will develop the lifelong skills needed to be
successful individuals, active community members, and responsible
citizens.
Responsibilities
The Arabic Teacher is responsible for
creating a learning environment that ensures that all students reach high
levels of academic and social development, working closely with grade level
teachers, contributing to E. L. Haynes Professional Learning Community, and
collaborating with staff and families to achieve the mission and goals of E. L.
Haynes Public Charter School. In addition to the expectations described below,
there may be additional responsibilities that a teacher undertakes or is
assigned as needs of students or of the school arise. The Arabic Teacher will report to the High
School Principal.
The Arabic teacher is expected to:

Plan
and deliver effective differentiated instruction.
o Plan units of study
that are engaging, rigorous, and age-appropriate.
o Design and implement
daily lessons that engage all learners, fit in with a long-term learning plan
and follow the E. L. Haynes lesson plan format.
o Develop and revise
clear criteria and standards for quality work and regularly examine student
work to ensure that it meets increasingly higher standards of quality.
o Ensure coherence in
students’ educational programs by coordinating instruction, discussing student
work, and sharing best practices with E. L. Haynes’ grade-level teachers and
Inclusion and English Language Learner specialists.

Create
a classroom culture and environment that demonstrates the E. L. Haynes Promise
by consistently modeling the promise, practicing Responsive Classroom
techniques, and displaying recent high-quality student work.

Engage
parents and families in their students’ academic success.
o
Prepare
progress reports for each student 2 times per year using reporting procedures
agreed upon by the teaching staff and Principal.
o
Keep
parents informed about classroom activities and units of study through on-going
communication.

Be
an active member of the E. L. Haynes Professional Learning Community.
o Embrace E. L. Haynes
rigorous educational program, including Responsive Classroom.
o Participate in E. L.
Haynes Professional Development workshops, including the Summer Professional
Development Institute (2 weeks for returning staff, 3 weeks for new staff).
o Observe other
teachers and facilitate observation of own classroom by other staff and
administrators.
o Seek out additional
opportunities for professional development that will lead to achieving personal
professional development goals.

Contribute
to the productivity of the school as a whole.
o
Maintain
an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and inventory of
classroom materials.
o
Participate
and assist as needed in the annual school review process, charter school
monitoring, school evaluations, and other school compliance procedures.
o
Participate
in interviewing potential, new staff members during the hiring process.
o
Follow
school-wide procedures for communication, including checking email twice daily,
reading the staff announcement board and checking mailbox every morning,
returning phone calls within 24 hours, and using the Outlook calendar system
for appointments.

Attend
and participate in school events outside of regular school hours which include
at least an evening event each quarter (e.g. Open House, Family Literacy Night,
or a student performance) and two weekend events (e.g. Saturday morning
clean-up, community service project, or classroom social event).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of teaching experience in an
urban setting and will be highly qualified under NCLB. He/she will also:
- Be relentless about meeting the needs of
every child in a diverse population.
- Be a strong classroom manager.
- Be an effective planner of
standards-based units and lessons that include differentiated
instruction.
- Have experience with data-driven
instruction.
- Have a proven track record of being a
strong team player.
- Be committed to his/her own learning and
professional development.
