QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a directly related field; Adult Basic Education experience preferred
  • Knowledge and application of effective ESL, ABE, GED, and Distance Learning instructional strategies
  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required to meet the goals of the position
  • Experience in presenting information to staff, teachers and students
  • Initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Proficient in MS Office Professional and MS Windows
  • Competence in working with linguistically and culturally diverse constituencies
  • Ability to travel to program sites throughout the district and the community    
  • Written/Oral skills in Spanish/English is a plus

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Recruit program participants as needed
  • Implement actions to retain students in order to maintain a daily attendance of 15 students (minimum)
  • Collaborate in student intake placement procedures
  • Administer, analyze and interpret ABE assessments to/for adult student
  • Utilize student assessment and classroom activities to monitor class performance to ensure state and federal performance target goals set by the grant for each educational functioning level are met
  • Provide appropriate testing conditions with minimum disruption in student and class schedules for oral administration of language and skill assessment tests
  • Adhere strictly to directions and scoring procedures
  • Provide holistic, learner-centered ESL/GED/Distance Learning instruction for adults
  • Develop and implement an Individual Education Plan (IEP) addressing student's goals, assessments, and educational functioning level based on Adult Education guidelines to determine instruction
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all student files and student portfolios
  • Develop and submit monthly lesson plans in targeted subject areas utilizing the established Content Standards & Benchmarks format required by the Adult Basic guidelines using various approved ABE curricula
  • Keep and assume the final responsibility for the true and accurate account of all on-site student records including student attendance, enrollment, assessment and goal reporting
  • Administer, analyze and interpret ABE assessments to adult students
  • Maintain records of testing completed by program sites
  • Tabulate and develop primary reports
  • Refer students in need of support services to community liaisons
  • Collaborate in student intake placement procedures
  • Maintain a daily attendance of 15 students (minimum)
  • Attend a minimum of 18-30 clock hours of staff development annually
  • Meet all timelines pertaining to payroll and student reports as required
  • Meet proficiency levels of required technology skills and incorporate appropriate technology in daily work and instructions as required by supervisor
  • Treat students, co-workers, supervisors and visitors with dignity and respect
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

Selected individuals for Dallas Independent School District positions will be placed according to compensation guidelines.   A campus-based employee may not assume a new position for which he/she was selected based upon the posting process until the end of the current semester, unless approved by the executive director - Human Resources. This position is funded by the ABE, Section 220/223 grant.   Federally funded personnel must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certifications, as appropriate.
