Responsibilites:
Under the supervision of the building administrator, the Head
Custodian is responsible for the overall cleanliness and proper
functioning of the building and campus, including all custodial
maintenance and service to the principal, staff and students.
Work includes responsibility for
overseeing all other building custodial staff. Maintain all parts
of the building and grounds including walks and parking lots in a
clean and sanitary condition; report needed repairs to the
principal or maintenance zone foreman; maintain public relations
and give service the highest priority throughout the entire
scope of work including administration, students, and the general
public; develop, train and maintain an effective crew in all
aspects of custodial maintenance; evaluate or assist in
evaluating the work of all employees supervised; assist other
workers in building maintenance duties; water lawns and planters
during season or on a scheduled basis; mow all areas not
accessible to large mowers; snow/ice removal; maintain school
berms and environmental areas; perform other work as
required.
Qualifications
Required:
-High school graduation or equivalent
-Ability to bend, stoop, reach and carry supplies and
equipment; ability to stand up to 8 hrs. per day
-Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional dual-lifts of
up to 100 pounds; frequent movement of heavy loads
-Communicate (read, write, and speak) and direct the work of
others by oral and written instructions in English, must pass
English component of interview process
-Completed BVSD on-line application
Preferred:
-A working knowledge and ability to instruct others in the
safe operation of custodial equipment, heating and air handling
systems, AV equipment, grounds equipment, sprinkler systems, hot
and steam heating systems, and carpentry tools
-Ability to perform minor maintenance of plumbing, switches,
windows, etc.
-Ability to clean and maintain uni-vents
-Ability to do thorough playground inspections
-Ability to use district internet/email
-Ability to create a work schedule for all custodians,
keep time cards and work logs; ability to set up for any or all
extracurricular activities
-Ability to utilize universal precautions; ability to
communicate and work with staff, parents and students
-Ability to expedite and organize district maintenance
runs
-Experience in building, custodial, heating and maintenance
work
-Experience directing the work of others; strong people
skills
