VACANCY: The Valley View Public School District is seeking
two individuals to fill A Technician II Specialist position.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a member of the Operations / Networking team of Valley View
School District's Technology Department, work under the general
direction of the Network / Operations Manager and Information
Security Officer to provide:
· Students with a

FUNCTIONS:
In order to support the above,
Technician Level II staff will fulfill the following job
functions for the organization:
· Support:
o Provide secure, efficient and responsive
support of the infrastructure, operational systems and
applications utilized by the organization.
o Provide escalation role to the Technology
Support Specialist teams, the Helpdesk function, the
administrative information systems team and the database and web
development team with hardware, software and operating system
support, enterprise applications, connectivity and
communications. This will involve field work at all
locations.
o This position is part of a team in charge of
providing support to all WLAN, LAN and internet connectivity
throughout the district. This position participates in a 24/7
weekly rotation in which one team member is on-call to assist
with network connection outages. The primary goal is to resolve
the connection problems and/or coordinate with vendors and other
members to resolve the problems.
· Security and
Quality Control:
o Ensure that all systems, procedures and work
practices follow established standards of security and quality
control.
o Makes recommendations and actively seek ways
to ensure all systems are operating securely and adhering to high
standards of quality and safety.
o Develop procedures and documentation to aid
in providing a secure and highly functioning environment for both
staff and students.
· Project
management: provide a project lead and/or coordinator role for
the organization's enterprise applications, specialized software
and network / operations hardware. This includes:
o Maintaining system and vendor software in an
operational state.
o Coordinating and installing operating
systems, software updates and patches and system security
applications.
o Monitor the system status through the use of
system logs and application information.
o Develop and maintain detailed plans to ensure
system hardware and software is current.
o Communicate with users to evaluate the
functionality, security and continued relevance of the product
and its performance.
· Business
resumption planning:
o Create, modify, and test plans for resuming
critical systems and infrastructure hardware and
applications.
o Create and maintain backups and the
associated documentation.
o Actively seek ways to avoid emergency
situations by ensuring systems are securely and prudently
managed.
o Monitor and establish benchmarks to enable
the identification of emergency situations.
o Create emergency plans and notifications for
incident handling.
o Coordinate/Perform 24/7/365 emergency
responses to network outages.
· Asset
management: Ensure the Districts assets are secured,
documented and maintained through the use of:
o Inventory
o Monitoring applications
o Reporting tools
· Documentation
and communication:
o Ensure all system and manual routines are
documented and communicated as needed.
o Provide technical advice, training,
consultation and research as necessary, to both technical and
non-technical staff.
o Create, modify and update technical support
documents for both technical and non-technical staff.
· Other duties as
assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / BACKGROUND / QUALITIES:
· BS or BA degree
in computer science or related field or comparable knowledge and
skills gained through work experience.
· At least 3
years of work experience within a school district preferred.
· Strong
analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication
skills (written and verbal as well as technical and non-technical
communication skills).
· Ability to work
successfully under direction, independently and in conjunction
with other departmental team members that have varying levels of
technical expertise.
· Ability to
provide technical support and training to end users in
"laypersons' terms" at their technical level and often on their
schedule.
· Must be able to
prioritize tasks and juggle multiple activities and projects.
· Foster a
positive working and learning environment
· Ability to work
a flexible schedule; either five (5) eight (8) hour days or four
(4) ten (10) hour days with a potential start time between 6 am
and 9 am.
· Be on call 24/7
to assist on network outages.
· Ability to
perform active field work, including lifting and other physical
activities.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a full-time, 12
month position. Lifting may be required.
