North High School
 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Must be able to teach Band at North High School. 

2. Must be able to time manage, plan, execute, and maintain the high quality band program in place at both buildings.

3. Must hold individual lessons (10 minutes) for 80 to a 100 students.

4.  Must organize, run, and manage the marching band at North.  This includes, Drumline, colorguard, and winds, extra rehearsals, performances,  staff, choreography, and drill.  Knowledge and expertise in marching  rehearsal techniques are necessary.

5. Must organize and run the Jazz Band. Jazz Band rehearsals at North are outside of school at least one day per week.

6.  Must schedule, plan, rehearse, and direct an average of 10 pep band performances at basketball games, and any school pep rally that is scheduled.

7.  Auditorium responsibilites, including set up, maintanance, and expertise in sound, lights, and fly system.

8.  Must be responsible for scheduled concerts, competitions, camps, and other school/community performances multiple dates throughout the school year.

9.  Must be responsible for working closely with the Instrumental Boosters for planning and managing the parent group.

10. Experience with the Iowa All-State Festival and qualifying process.

11.  Must assist in the production and the pit for the school musical and show choir combos.

12.  Must be willing to be a responsive, flexible member of the music department able to share facilities and student musicians.

13.  Must be willing to participate in building initiatives to include data teams and district/building initiatives.

14. Must have the qualification of a Masters' Degree in an appropriate music teaching or performance related field.

15. Woodwind specialist is required to fill out the department areas of expertise.

16. The Davenport District solo festival is held at North high, and the North Instrmental music staff is responsible for running the event by organizing, set up, tear down, and providing workers.

17.  Teaming with the elementary and Middle school teachers is an important part of the north band program. Transition from 6 <SUP>th</SUP> to 7 <SUP>th</SUP> grades and again from 8 <SUP>th</SUP> to 9 <SUP>th</SUP> grade is helped by communication and working with other directors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  HBV- no

Must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, rearranging furniture including pianos.

Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters Degree, endorsement 145 (7-12 Music)

Previous experience with high school-age students.

Experience with the 4 X 4 block schedule

Woodwind specialist
