Job Title: Special Services Resource Room Teacher

Summary
The Special Services Resource Room teacher will create a flexible program and classroom conducive to learning and growth for Special Education students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An individual who holds this position is required to:
- Coordinate and implement student’s I.E.P. and Service Plans.
- Provide instruction to Special Education students, using a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources.
- Create lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction, as well as provide these plans to paraprofessionals assisting you.
- Participate in department meetings.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns.
- Serve as chairperson of an IEP team and other student assistance teams as requested.
- Establish and maintain contact with relevant outside sources serving assigned students (e.g., counselor, psychiatrist, doctor, tutor).
- Use appropriate discretion in handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
- Monitor condition of student’s permanent record for completeness, order, and confidentiality.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy.
- Develop a positive working relationship with paraprofessionals and other staff.
- Demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility and commitment to being a team player.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelors Degree
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in Special Education in required grade level.
Skills and Abilities

- Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance.
- Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents.
- Present information effectively and respond to questions.

- Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

- Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

- Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.

Conditions and Environment
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
