Hinoki International School (HIS) is seeking Japanese candidates for a Kindergarten teacher position.  HIS uses a two-way immersion environment to promote Japanese and English development and, eventually, have students develop bilingual fluency and competency in both cultures.

This position would be a co-teaching position with 2 American kindergarten homeroom teachers, and would be full time.  Half of the time would be with one class, and half the time with the other class.  The Japanese kindergarten teacher would also coordinate with the younger students at Himawari Preschool, under the direction of the Kindergarten-Preschool Japanese principal, to provide the 3 <sup>rd</sup> year of Japanese kindergarten education to both classrooms.

In addition, the teacher will be expected to fulfill a variety of tasks to help make our small learning community work effectively for all students in the school.  A successful candidate will show evidence of flexibility, creativity, and ability to work with all other staff in the school.  Evidence of 2 years or more of successful teaching experience is expected.

  • College degree required

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION

  • Kindergarten teaching license (Japan or US)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT LIMITED TO)

  • Creating lesson and unit plans that demonstrate deep understanding of Japanese kindergarten objectives and practices
  • Working with student portfolio assessments (wikispaces), and working with technology in both teaching and assessment of students
  • Keeping a positive and orderly learning environment that engages students and maximizes on-task behavior
  • Using Instructional strategies that promote student engagement and critical thinking
