Position Summary:  As the school nurse, you can connect with kids in our community and have an impact on their well-being.  The school nurse conducts school health screenings for physical examinations, hearing and vision tests, and dental clinics, as well as administering immunizations.  This position will contact/visit homes of children referred by principal and teachers, participate in developing a total health program, and recommend modifications of educational programs, as well as provide immediate first aid care to students and staff members who have experienced injury or emergency illness until a parent or physician is available.  This position is also responsible for regular agency reporting and record keeping. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in Alaska, or have the ability to obtain licensing in Alaska upon hire.  For information on occupational licensing in Alaska, visit:  http://www.commerce.state.ak.us/occ/
  • Valid Alaska driver's license required.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents is preferred.

Compensation:  This is a full-time 9-month position, with a minimum salary of $27.01 per hour with a possibility of advanced step placement dependent on education and experience.  Employees in this job class typically work an additional ten (10) days per year to enable assignment outside of the student contact year to meet district needs.

 

Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
