Duties & Responsibilities:  (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)

·    Facilitate the implementation and actualization of the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan

·    Provide instruction to all special education students as is outlined in their Individual Educational Plans

·    Fulfill all the necessary requirements for paperwork, data collection and monitoring of student progress as outlined in the District Special Education Handbook

·    Develop and implement all IEP's for exceptional education students

·    Participate in bi-monthly team meetings with the AEA staff and other building special education staff

·    Create a sense of community within your classroom where all learners are respected and encouraged to reach their full potential

·    Help students set academic and behavioral goals and assist them in monitoring their progress

·    Use Differentiated Instruction in all areas of the curriculum to help meet the needs of all of your students

·    Team teach with the general education staff

·    Use research-based strategies such as Read-alouds, Think-alouds, Graphic Organizers and QAR to deliver all aspects of the curriculum

·    Attend weekly Data Driven Decision Making meetings with grade-level team members to review curriculum, plan for instruction and monitor   student achievement data

·    Implement all Learning Cycles as determined by the team through the  DDDM process with fidelity and integrity 

·    Use both formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and set academic goals for improvement and acceleration

·    Participate in the facilitation of RTI plans when necessary and appropriate  

·    Participate in District and building-wide staff development activities and complete all assignments associated with the areas of study

·    Organize your classroom to create a neat and appropriate climate for learning

·    Incorporate the Boys Town Social Skills, Life Skills, Olweus Anti-bully steps and Second Step strategies into your classroom

·    Communicate with and involve families as needed to support student achievement

·    Participate with a team of colleagues in the Data Driven Decision Making Process

·    Participate in peer coaching

·    Provide on-going instruction and practice for students in building-wide procedures

·    Follow all staff building-wide procedures

·    Assist with all other duties as assigned by the principal

·    Demonstrate flexibility and work cooperatively with classroom teachers

·    Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

Special Qualification Desired:  (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)

·    Knowledge of best practices in instruction, particularly in language arts and math

·    Must value diversity of students and reflect this in teaching and disciplinary strategies, which emphasize high expectations for student performance

·    Knowledge and strategies for working with students with ADD/ADHD

·    Ability to work with a multi-aged group of students
