Qualifications:

 

Required: 

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License or eligible for Colorado Teaching License
  • Secondary Language Arts Endorsement
  • Endorsed or highly qualified in Social Studies
  • Willingness to work within a modified year-round calendar
  • Participation in all required professional development training and required team collaboration before and after school, evenings and summer months beginning May 2012 (e.g. IB Middle Years Programme Training)
  • Commitment to support and participate in standard staff dress code**

** Standard dress for Magnet school staff includes professional looking slacks or skirts in black or khaki; professional looking solid color tops (shirts, blouses, dress shirt) in white or black, blazers in black or khaki, ties or scarves in black and gold.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to develop instructional proficiency and commitment to student success and achievement as evident through student achievement
  • Minimum 3 years successful Language Arts experience
  • Demonstrated successful teaching as evidenced by exceptional student achievement scores
  • Ability to demonstrate International mindedness and commitment to global learning
  • Daily commitment to the use of Colorado Academic Standards, IB criterion, and common core standards
  • Commitment to professional learning communities and collaboration
  • Minimum 2 years teaching in an authorized International Baccalaureate MYP Programme
  • Completion of MYP level II or level III training.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and teach backwards designed unit planners as well develop integrated units across content areas
  • Ability and willingness to ensure a reflective approach to learning
  • Trained and able to use a variety of writing programs including the following: Step-Up to Writing, 6-Trait Writing, DBQ, or other research based writing programs
  • Willingness to support students in a mentorship capacity
  • Trained and actively using Kagan Cooperative learning strategies
  • Willingness to participate in extended day activities
  • Willingness to sponsor extended enrichment activities, clubs
  • Exceptional classroom management skills
  • Proficient with instructional technology ( e.g. computer tablet, email, streaming, promethean technology)
  • Ability to embed rigor for all students
  • Commitment to the inspiration and motivation of adolescence

Specific Job Requirements:

  1. Teach an international style language arts curriculum
  2. Teach all levels of language arts
  3. Write daily with students
  4. Believe that the teacher is the primary determinant of student success
  5. Maintain a positive professional attitude of excellence, collaboration, and unified purpose
  6. Shared leadership and leadership of student activities
  7. Participate in developing and implementing school improvement plan
  8. Work as part of a collaborate team to write, teach assess, and coach student in IB style instruction
  9. Communicate frequently with parents through formal and informal feedback
  10. Work to maintain the highest academic and behavior standards
  11. Work to shape a school climate and culture that emphasizes excellence and quality work ethic, and a love for learning
  12. Be self-motivated with a strong professional work ethic and a contributing member of a highly qualified staff focused on the mission of the school and district
  13. Embrace professional development as a personal journey which includes instructional collaboration, coaching, and mentoring
  14. Provide necessary support to guarantee student success
  15. Responsible for any and all duties as assigned by the principal
