QUALIFICATIONS: This
position requires knowledge of proper English usage and grammar; knowledge of
pertinent academic areas and learning situations; general needs and behaviors
of high school students, and student recreational activities.
Must
possess the skill to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in
an independent manner; understand the needs of high school students and
effectively relate to these needs in a learning or recreational situation;
learn the requirements of the students in the specific learning program to
which assigned; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of
action; supervise students in a variety of situations; maintain calm and
patience in stressful situations.
Must
have the ability to operate standard office equipment establish and maintain
accurate classroom records and files; be flexible and willing to make changes
necessary to meet the varied needs of the handicapped; establish and maintain
cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the
performance of duties. Meet the physical
requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist
physically handicapped students in toileting needs including stall positioning;
lift and carry students; feed students - oral and tube feeding; assist in
administration of C.P.R. or first aid under supervision of certificated
teacher; transport students when needed in district automobile; follow safety
standards and specific hygienic routines; supervision of students during lunch,
assemblies, etc.; confer with teacher regarding students progress; perform
other duties as required to meet the varied health and educational needs
presented by handicapped students.
MUST POSSESS AND
MAINTAIN A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.
HEALTH CARE COMPETENCY IS REQUIRED.
HEALTH CARE SPECIALISTS WILL RECEIVE ON THE JOB TRAINING TO MAINTAIN
COMPETENCY LEVELS.

POSITION:
Under supervision assists teacher by caring for handicapped students'
physical needs and helping in their training and educational needs through the
presentation of educational material or exercises. This job class will perform a variety of
duties dealing with the health and safety of handicapped students and requires
high degree of positive contact with students and certificated staff.
