The Co-op Arts Director reports directly to the Principal of Co-op and is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the arts program vision which supports the larger school Co-op vision and mission.  In consultation with the Principal, the arts director is responsible for recruiting, hiring, supervising, supporting, and evaluating 20-25 full time and part time teacher artists in dance, theatre, music, visual arts, and creative writing.  The Arts Director will assist in the hiring, supervising and evaluating of both academic and art staffing, act as a liaison for all new and existing partnerships with the school that involve arts education and will foster the development of good relations with other area cultural organizations by participating in meetings and joint activities.  He/she part of the administrative team.  The arts director is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the arts program and its alignment with the overall curriculum and mission of the school.

In addition, he/she builds and manages partnerships with many local education and arts organizations including Yale University and the Shubert Theatre.  The role includes acting as a spokesperson for the organization’s artistic and academic purpose via speaking engagements, public events and recruitment of both students and staff.  In consultation with the principal, the arts director manages the school/arts budget and serves as point person to the facilities manager, custodial crew, and staff in matters relating to the school’s physical state, and concerns of maintenance, security, and safety.  In all areas, the arts director works directly with the Principal to develop and maintain a rigorous, stimulating academic and arts environment that enables students to reach their highest potential.  The role includes reporting regularly to the Principal on updates relevant to the arts program.


Qualifications: 

 

Master's Degree or higher preferred; Teaching experience; Budget and Management experience required.  (092) administrator certification preferred but not required.
