Description:

  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student code of conduct
  • Resolve conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to immediate supervisor
  • Investigate complaints, disturbances, or violations
  • Control traffic and parking on campus grounds
  • Register student vehicles and maintain accurate records of registration
  • Work cooperatively with office personnel to inform students of problems with vehicles (i.e., improperly parked, lights on)
  • Record and report vandalism, car accidents and theft
  • Assist law enforcement personnel as needed
  • Escort students, authorized visitors, or disruptive individuals to designated locationsMonitor entrances and exits
  • Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and properties and prevent passage of prohibited articles into school areas
  • Attend extra-curricular activities and graduation to provide student supervision, when necessary
  • Maintain a good working relationship and professional demeanor with security personnel, DISD staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Monitor alarm system to detect emergencies and notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention
  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

·         Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)

·         Zero to six months of work related experience; including some experience working with children, youth leadership, coaching, and/or counseling preferred

·         Ability to recognize public safety hazards

·         Ability to de-escalate conflict situations

·         Completion of short-term training program (i.e. crowd control, interpersonal communication, basic counseling techniques, essentials of physical restraint techniques, and reporting facts)

·         Ability to observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources

·         Ability to review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems

·         Knowledge of relevant security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school security operations for the protection of people, data and property is a plus

·         Demonstrated ability to interface effectively (written/verbal) with students, parents, and all levels of district personnel

·         Demonstrated ability to concentrate on multiple tasks without being distracted

·         Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

·         Working knowledge of gang affiliations, symbols, and colors
