Position Title:  Team Leader, Student Services

 

Department: Student Services

 

Reports to:  Director

 

Position Summary: 

Informed by the school’s mission, the Student Services Team Leader (Case Manager) guides the student services team – social worker, school nurse, college counselor (when applicable), and special education staff.  The Team Leader will oversee case management for students with special needs by coordinating the identification and SBPS process, tracking necessary paperwork, providing professional development to both special and regular education staff, monitoring teaching assignments for staff, and serving as the liaison with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Specialized Services personnel.   Additionally, the Student Services Team leader will supervise the work of the college counselor, school nurse and social worker.

 

The Team Leader will actively participate with colleagues in school improvement activities, curriculum development, teaming, and collaboration.  The Team Leader will maintain all appropriate special education forms, Individual Education Programs (IEP's), and records mandated by regulation and district policy.  

 

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree and appropriate certification are required.  A Master's degree is preferred.  Strength of academic background, experience, interview results, and references will be considered during the selection process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

I.  Basic Function

Appointed by the Director, the Team Leader exercises leadership through collaboration with the administration in matters of implementation of policies and supervision of teachers, and collaboration with teachers in matters of curriculum and professional development.  The Team Leader serves on the CICS Leadership Team and facilitates the flow of information between the Leadership Team and faculty members.  The Team Leader exhibits leadership through modeling the CICS mission statement. 

 

The Team Leader is responsible for the effective management of department funds, materials, supplies and other resources required for instruction.

 

II.  Duties and Responsibilities

Mission of the School

-        Knowledge of mission

-         Support in communicating and carrying out the mission

-         Continuous development of the educational program within the department and the school

-         Promote community within the department and the school

-         Promote positive public relations for the department


Vision and Direction of the Department

-         Recommend department goals, objectives, and directions

-         Evaluate department progress

-         Ensure department consistency and clarify procedures governing assignments, testing, and grading consistent with school policies and procedures

-         Plan, develop, promote and implement curriculum change within the department consistent with school vision

-         Coordinate department with other departments


Special Education

-         Maintains compliance in accordance with IDEA 2004 and the Rehabilitation Act, Section 504

-         Acts as facilitator at all IEP/504 meetings

-         Responsible for all required paperwork before, during and after meetings to ensure that all necessary parties are well informed

-         Maintains communication with Chicago Public Schools, Office of Specialized Services and itinerants  regarding needs and placements of students in special education programs

-         Complete monthly reports to be submitted to Director of Student Services

-         Actively participate in SBPS meetings


Department Personnel

-         Participate in hiring of personnel

-         Support and guide new teachers in procedures, policies, and the mission

-         Recommend department teaching assignments in collaboration with members of the department

-         Facilitate conflict resolution for issues and problems that arise within the department

-         Review goals and objectives of department members

-         Observe department members teach

-         Collaborate with the administration in the supervision of teachers


Professional Growth and Development

-         Plan and conduct department meetings

-         Inform members of new developments in the field

-         Stimulate professional growth and involvement of department members

-         Plan department in-service as appropriate

-         Continue one’s own professional growth


Resource Management

-         Recommend and administer the department budget according to school policies and procedures

-         Collaborate with the department members in the selection of department materials, supplies and equipment

Leadership Team

-         Participate in the development of school goals, policies and procedures that influence classroom management, curriculum and instruction

-         Serve as the department spokesperson and liaison to the Leadership Team

-         Represent the department as advisor to the administrative team

-         Collaborate with the Leadership Team in the development and effective implementation and assessment of the total educational program
