JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Copper River School District is announcing an opening for the following position:

POSITION:    Generalist Teacher (Generalist with 6-12 Content Area Endorsement)

DURATION:  SY 2012-2013

LOCATION:  Glennallen School

SALARY:       Dependent on Placement on Salary Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:                                    

·         Alaska Type A Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in one of the core academic subject areas.

·         Experience in construction trades, beginning to advanced woodworking, welding, automotive tech, and small engines.

·         Endorsement and/or experience in grades 6-12.

·         Experience teaching cross-curricular content and skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to upper elementary, junior high, and/or high school students.

·         Successful experience teaching remedial coursework to students who experience difficulty mastering core academic courses.

·         Experience in providing remedial instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics using content standards, performance standards, and grade-level expectations.

·         Knowledge of performance assessments with emphasis on standards-based assessments and preparation for the Alaska Graduation Qualifying Examination.       

·         Ability to adapt reading, writing, and mathematics curriculum to provide remedial instruction for the individual student.

·         Evaluates each student's progress toward completion of all required coursework.

·         Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

·         Ability to work closely with colleagues on middle-grades team (Grades 6-8).

·         Communicates with parents and school counselor on student progress.

·         Ability to plan and work collaboratively with teachers on implementation of curriculum.

·         Familiar with Six-Trait Writing philosophy and assessment preferred.

·         Ability to sponsor and participate in extra-curricular activities.
