Director of Content/Development - Elementary

Description:

The Elementary Director is responsible for developing materials and resources for third through fifth grade to promote the mission of the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI). The Director must have a broad knowledge of elementary education, a deep understanding of the vertical articulation of skills and concepts across courses, experience in curriculum development, and a degree in a core content area. The Director must be able to work collaboratively with the Secondary Directors for English, mathematics, and science to build a seamless 3-12 program. Additionally, the Director must be able to create yearly development plans and manage resources to meet these goals. The Elementary Director reports to the Chief Academic Officer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation/revision/editing of all NMSI elementary materials and resources
  • Collaborate with other LTF Content Directors to align materials to support NMSI programs
  • Provide vision for the development of training for third through fifth grade teachers
  • Work with the Instructional Design Specialist to refine materials and resources for online delivery
  • Mentor teachers and trainers through the online forums
  • Research current trends in education and remain current in content
  • Recruit independent contractors for writing and revision projects
  • Assist in identifying potential trainers
  • Provide LTF Pre-AP and AP training as needed
  • Build and maintain a departmental budget
  • Return emails and phone calls in a timely manner

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Understand the Common Core State Standards and their impact on instruction and assessment
  • Possess strong skills in Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Microsoft Word, Excel,
  • PowerPoint, Outlook, and Web 2.0 tools
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Think analytically, prioritize tasks, and develop processes that monitor progress and performance
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Exude a positive image that reflects well on the organization
  • Possess management skills and understand team dynamics
  • Work collaboratively with staff in other departments
  • Evaluate data and generate reports

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a core content area (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Elementary education degree, certification, or endorsement
  • Minimum of 10 years teaching and leadership experience
