MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Education
Texas School Counselor Certification (or eligibility for Texas School Counselor Certification)
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate at the level of assignment with a minimum of 2 years experience in an accredited K-12 school. 
Knowledge about State law and School Board policies related to school guidance and counseling.  
Knowledge of the TEA Comprehensive Development Guidance Plan; behavior support systems, including school wide, classroom and individual student intervention strategies; and character education programs.

Testing Experience Preferred, Early College High School Experience Preferred, Ability to work late evenings.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Understanding of the developmental issues of the students to which he/she is assigned.
Ability to communicate effectively with families, students, teachers, and administrators.
Skills to work with students in groups and individually.
Thorough understanding of state testing requirements.
Knowledge of mental health community resources and agencies and the ability to access these resources.
knowledge of career and post secondary options for secondary students, including college admissions and financial aid.
Ability/skills to counsel students, parents, and administrators in the delivery of a Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program.
Ability to survey a campus and create a guidance program in response to the needs of the campus.
Ability to review student records to determine whether or not students have completed the graduation requirements of the Minimum, Recommended, or Distinguished Achievement High School Graduation Plan.
Ability to provide and willingness to attend professional development related to the knowledge of job skills.
Technological skills required for the position.
 
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent should be willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom, which may include working hours in addition to the regular school day.  This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids.  Regular attendance is required for this position.   
 
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent receives administrative supervision and is typically evaluated about three times per year.  It is expected that less experienced incumbents will receive additional guidance on instructional matters and that those with more experience will serve as mentors, providing suggestions, guidance, and assistance as appropriate or necessary.  It is expected that some incumbents will be more involved in planning and coordinating departmental activities.  Supervisor may provide detailed instruction regarding changes in policies, procedures, or laws or in reference to unusual circumstances or problems.  Incumbent has significant contact with students, parents, and other school staff to provide instruction, offer guidance, exchange information, and develop social skills of students.  Incumbent may also maintain contacts within the community to enrich the content of materials and utilize additional instructional methodologies (e.g., take field trips, invite guest speakers.)

 
SALARY:  P07B Pay Grade - $48,842 + experience
