Job Summary:
New Teacher Center is actively seeking an accomplished education leader to launch and lead NTC Boston. Candidates should be committed to improving teacher effectiveness as a strategy for increasing student performance and passionate about New Teacher Center's approach to teacher induction and support. They should be committed to partnering with Boston Public Schools to improve teaching and learning in the city.

The New Teacher Center-Boston Director will lead all NTC Boston efforts including program delivery, high level relationship-building and management, fund-raising, and operations. Under the supervision of NTC's Senior Director for Program Engagement, the NTC Boston Director will work closely with the Chief Officer of Programs and Partnerships (CPPO), Senior VP of Induction Programs, Vice President of Development, and the Chief Executive Officer to oversee NTC's induction efforts in BPS as well as lead new, proactive outreach efforts across BPS and Boston to promote high quality instructional induction programs that positively impact student learning. Responsibilities include representing NTC in establishing strong, ongoing communications with BPS central office, principals, and other key district stakeholders responsible for the full range of BPS teacher effectiveness initiatives; seeking out and capitalizing on fundraising and collaborative opportunities to grow and deepen work in BPS; establishing partnerships with educational reform organizations operating in Boston on behalf of new teacher effectiveness; launching an NTC Boston base of operations; and leading fundraising.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.
  •     Promote, plan and coordinate NTC's Induction Program with NTC staff
                   o    Liaison between NTC national work and BPS program
                   o    Work with BPS department and program leads to oversee content and quality of program implementation, including delivery of all services to BPS
                   o    Seek partnerships within and beyond BPS District to strengthen program implementation and sustainability
                   o    Work with BPS and NTC to maintain high quality service delivery at the organizational level
                   o    In collaboration with BPS personnel, oversee the management of relationships with BPS stakeholders
  •     Lead NTC-Boston operations, planning and fundraising with support from the CEO, CPPO and other national staff
  •     Establish partnerships with a variety of non-profit, philanthropic and policy stakeholders throughout Boston
  •     Develop and manage the NTC-Boston Advisory Board
  •     Supervise and evaluate future NTC-Boston staff
  •     Collaborate with the CEO, CPPO, and VP of Development to identify and secure funding from foundations, private donors, and state and federal grants
  •     Provide information and make presentations to various stakeholders about best practices related to teacher and principal induction
  •     Work with BPS to communicate with BPS partners, community stakeholders, researchers, policy makers, funders, and other influential stakeholders who are invested in Boston school reform efforts
  •     Represent NTC at events, meetings, and convocations involving educational initiatives or stakeholders that take place in the greater Boston metropolitan area
  •     Develop communications materials (electronic and print) in collaboration with the NTC and BPS Directors of Communications that are tailored to the BPS context and in support of the NTC Boston efforts (may include a blog, periodic electronic newsletter, etc.). Broker the strategic engagement of key NTC senior leadership (CEO, COs, and Senior VPs), as appropriate
  •     Deliver NTC professional development (as needed)
 
Qualifications:

  •     Masters degree in a related field is required
  •     5 years program or project leadership experience, especially in complex, sometimes uncertain, environments, with a track record of significant accomplishment
  •     At least 3 years teaching experience in BPS or in another large urban district; instructional leadership experience (e.g., instructional mentor, principal, etc.) a plus
  •     Strong working knowledge of the NTC approach to teacher development as well as knowledge of and relationships within BPS
  •     Experience building and maintaining support of local funding community
  •     Ability to effectively engage a variety of stakeholders, including district leaders, funders, and media
  •     Experience delivering a variety of public presentations and professional development; strong public-speaking skills
  •     Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  •     Self-reflective; constant learner
