ENGLEWOOD SCHOOLS POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher
(.6 FTE), Interventionist (.4 FTE) EFFECTIVE: 2012 - 2013 school
year 185 days/year POSITION SUMMARY: This position will provide
intervention instruction to students below grade level and with
special needs. Plan lessons, select materials; prepare assignments,
worksheets, tests, and guide discussions. Encourage and provide
feedback as students work through the assignments. The focus of
this position is student growth, proficiency and preparing students
for the future. Work closely and possibly team teach with classroom
instructor. Attend and actively participate in departmental and
SPED team meetings. Provide feedback to stakeholders regarding
individual student performance. Encourage parent/guardian
involvement in student learning through open houses, volunteering,
parent/teacher conferences, etc. Develop and promote good community
relations among stakeholders. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Create a positive learning environment and
effective management structures to purposefully promote and foster
effective teaching, learning, and student achievement. Create an
instructional learning environment that establishes routines and
provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation,
and originality. Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team
understanding of student strengths and needs, through evaluation,
educational program planning, and service delivery. Promote a
learning environment respecting the dignity of the child that is
perceived by students as fair and consistent. Evaluate the
student's ability and formulates the student's profile through a
variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments,
skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
Incorporate additional learning opportunities for advanced and
non-proficient students. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings
to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other
disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual
education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals. Ensure
all classroom processes, procedures and data collection are highly
organized and effective with optimal use of instructional time.
Motivate, engage, and empower learners to track and monitor his/her
learning. Design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning
experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and
resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop
knowledge, skills, and attitudes aligned with 21st Century
learning. Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject
areas to establish links between disciplines and influence
school-wide curriculum and teaching practice. Demonstrate mastery
of content and is able to make curriculum rigorous and relevant to
all students. Deliver content that is relevant to students and
applicable to the real world. Integrate and align Colorado Academic
Standards, instructional objectives, instructional strategies,
learning activities, materials, resources and assessments and
differentiate lesson planning based on individual student needs.
Use data management tools to analyze results and draw inferences
from data to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and
timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at
their highest level. Effectively communicate with parents and staff
about student's progress and opportunities. Utilize technology
and/or other avenues to communicate to stakeholders (website,
podcasts, etc.). Establish student, staff and parental rapport that
allows for a proactive response to potential problems. Participate
in continuing education for professional development to ensure
practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado
Licensure requirements. Use professional literature; evidence based
research, and continuing education content to make practice
decisions. Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of
practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice. Notify the
Principal and Director of Student Services of any failure to
implement the requirements of assigned students IEP. Perform other
related duties as assigned or requested. SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision of support personnel. Conduct
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's
policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are
not limited to interview participation, training/development,
assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints
and resolve problems. BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently. Create and
implement effective and efficient process management strategies
(e.g., procedures, instructional groups, transition materials and
supplies). Accurately projects need for budget planning. Maintain
accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state
guidelines, and school system policy. Review processes for
improvement opportunities and make changes as needed to ensure
quality of instruction. The education/training/experience,
license/certification, general expectations, physical demands, and

essential functions. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Master's
degree. English fluency will be determined through the interview
process and licensure. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Colorado
Driver's License. Valid Colorado Teaching License with a Special
Education Generalist and Elementary Education endorsements. GENERAL

legislation, regulation, and policies. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS: Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
Occasional lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing. Occasional
stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and reaching. WORK
ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is high energy and may often
appear chaotic. Mostly clean and comfortable. REPORTS TO: Principal
