QUALIFICATIONS
1. Hold a valid teacher's license with
appropriate endorsement(s).
2. Possess strong writing, speaking, and human
relations skills.

JOB GOAL
The Secondary School Teacher is responsible for
teaching students and leading them toward the fulfillment of
their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological
growth, and maturation.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
The Secondary School Teacher reports to the
school principal and assistant principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Presents subject matter in class using varied
innovative teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of
the individual student.
2. Organizes and assigns lessons.
3. Uses a variety of evaluation strategies and
records results when appropriate.
4. Administers tests to evaluate progress,
records results, and issues reports to inform parents of
student academic progress;
5. Maintains order in classroom and on school
property.
6. Conducts and maintains a classroom
environment conducive to learning;
7. Keeps attendance, grade records, and
permanent records as required by the school system.
8. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the
locations and at times designated;
9. Works as a cooperative teacher to make
modifications for students with learning differences as needed
so the students can feel successful in the classroom;
10. Reports to the guidance counselor and/or
principal when a child's welfare appears to be at risk by abuse
or neglect.
11. Works closely with guidance counselors to
identify and discuss students' problems or needs relating to
physical and emotional wellness;
12. Participates in faculty and department
meetings, educational conferences, and appropriate teacher
training workshops;
13. Maintains availability to students and
parents for education-related meetings outside the
instructional day when requested;
14. Shows evidence of class preparation upon
request of immediate supervisor;
15. Supervises activities such as educational
field trips and school and/or GSIA-sponsored social
functions;
16. Meets all in-service, administrative, and
SACS requirements.
17. Assumes responsibility for all classroom
activities and directs the duties of the instructional
assistants that have been assigned to them.
18. Reports to the principal and/or assistant
principal to discuss matters of importance;
19. Assists in enforcing school rules, Board
policies, and administrative regulations;
20. Represents the school, the school system,
and the community in a positive manner.
21. Performs other duties as assigned by the
principal or his designee
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting of objects that
exceed 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may
be required are as follows:
