Library Media Assistant
6 hours per day
Qualifications:
High school diploma
An interest in working with students and staff in an
educational setting
Experience with and knowledge of library organization
Computer experience essential
Conducts the unique duties and responsibilities
of the position:
1. Guides the day-to-day activity and operation
of the library
2. Provides informal instruction of library
skills as needed to both students and staff
3. Prepares and maintains print and non-print
materials for circulation
4. Encourages library usage through displays,
bulletin boards, and announcements
5. Performs clerical duties (i.e., typing,
covering/repairing books, and scheduling the center for classes
and events)
6. Discharges duties pertaining to the library
automation system (i.e., checking items in and out, re-shelving
items, and generating overdue notices)
7. Promotes reading with students by providing
storytelling, read a-louds, and/or reading activities to
students during scheduled library (teacher-planning) times
8. Manages library equipment, including
computers (i.e., labeling, scheduling, inventorying,
trouble-shooting)
9. Inventories building technology
materials
10. Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher
librarian or principal
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
required to frequently walk, stoop, bend, and sit.
Typically the duties are performed indoors where the noise
level in the work environment ranges from mild to
loud.
