Description:
Dual Language Program Teacher plans
and implement lessons in accordance with the District Standards,
English Language Proficiency Standards, North Shore School District Dual
Language Program curriculum allocation model. Implement
and utilize student assessment data to guide instructional decisions.
Collaborate with all staff to meet the needs of diverse learners. Serve
as a second language consultant to school staff by maintaining a high
knowledge base of the latest research, laws, and most effective
practices in the field. Participate
in school improvement initiatives. Inform parents and students of
academic and behavioral progress, concerns, and long-range expectations
related to second language acquisition. Serve
as bilingual liaison between English Language Learners, his/her family
and the school, especially with respect to cultural and language
differences, and providing cross cultural information to all parties
that foster positive relationships.
Job Summary: Dual
Language Program Teachers work in an exciting 80:20 dual language
program model. The teacher in the Dual Language Program ensures each
student will think critically, communicate efficiently using the four
language domains in Spanish and English, understand
cultural heritage and diversity. Essential Functions: 1. Provide core
instruction using Spanish language and resources for designated
subjects; provide core instruction using English language and resources
for designated subjects. 2. Provide an appropriate educational program
for each student in conjunction with the goals of the District Strategic
Plan. 3. Demonstrate appropriate planning and the use of a variety of
instructional techniques and strategies aimed at content including
minority and majority language literacy development. 4. Work with a team
to develop effective bilingual interventions, and curriculum. 5.
Collaborate with dual language grade level or district dual language
team. 6. Maintain accurate files for each student enrolled with academic
progress and objectives. 7. Communicates effectively with students, parents,
colleagues and community. 8. Establishes good rapport with students, parents,
colleagues and community. 9. Interacts with students, parents, colleagues and
community in a mutually respectful manner. 10. Expresses interest and enthusiasm
for teaching and learning. 11. Demonstrates empathy, fairness and consistency. 12.
Serves as a positive role model for students and colleagues. 13. Shows a sense of
humor as appropriate. 14. Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation. 15.
Demonstrates appropriate voice, diction and language usage. 16. Demonstrates
appropriate listening skills. 17. Maintains a positive and pleasant attitude. 18.
Maintains a professional demeanor. 19. Develops supportive and collegial
relationships. 20. Guarantee collaboration and articulation with the middle schools.
Qualifications: Valid Illinois elementary certificate with Bilingual Approval or Endorsement Required (Spanish)

Working Conditions: Salary range: $41,149-110,446 ((Salary is based on 2011-12 contract, new salary is pending based on new
contract for the 2012-2013 school year), plus excellent benefits including individual health and dental insurance paid for by the Board of Education, TRS Retirement Pension Service Credit, paid sick, personal, and bereavement leave, and other benefits.

Our proud tradition of providing excellence in education for the communities of Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan began more than one hundred years ago.
