SUMMARY
Plan for, prepare and serve the students attractive and
nutritious meals in an atmosphere of friendliness, efficiency,
and cleanliness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Manages
kitchen at Global Leadership Academy campus.
2 Communicate
with kitchen employees, District staff, students, and community
to arrange for and serve
nutritious meals at District
schools.
3. Prepare
food according to planned menus and tested recipes.
4. Complete daily records,
deposits, and money journals.
5. Determine the quantities
of food to be prepared daily.
6. Supervise and instruct
kitchen personnel in the safe and proper preparation of
food.
7. Supervise and instruct
kitchen personnel in safe, proper, and efficient use of all
kitchen equipment.
8. Check equipment to
ensure it is in safe working condition, and notify the
supervisor when repairs or replacements are needed.
9. Instruct new kitchen
employees in performing their assigned tasks.
10. Order all
necessary supplies in compliance with order schedule.
11. Check in
food shipments by verifying orders and signing off on
invoices.
12. Maintain
kitchen employee time records and the monthly inventory of
kitchen supplies.
13. Cater events
scheduled in assigned building. Assist with larger
catering events outside of building.
14. Evaluate the
performance of all kitchen employees.
15. Attend staff
development and manager meetings as offered.
16. Perform
other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING High
school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational school or short
term courses
EXPERIENCE
2 years experience in food service, preferably in
schools
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE,
& EQUIPMENT
Math, basic writing, microcomputer, accounting, and
nutrition skills and knowledge. Operating knowledge of
mixer, dishwasher, slicer, computer, and adding machine
preferred at hire; required within 3 weeks after hire.

& REGISTRATIONS
None required.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL
RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises 2-5 employees in the Child Nutrition
Department. Positions supervised include Nutrition
Service Assistants. Spends less than 50% of time
conducting supervisory responsibilities. Carries out
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing
work; and appraising performance. Acts as resource for
catering special events and for maintaining the free and
reduced lunch records.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION
MAKING
Work is assigned by supervisor. Requires independent
judgment, nutrition knowledge, and supervisory skills to
properly calculate needed food, ensure preparation of
nutritious food, direct the work of kitchen employees, and
maintain accurate records. Decision making is guided by
health department, federal, and District guidelines, policies,
and procedures. Decision making requires collaboration
with supervisor when necessary. Errors in decision making
could result in an unhealthy cafeteria environment,
insufficient food supply, and errors in bookkeeping.
Supervisor is occasionally involved in decision-making.
DIVERSITY OF DUTIES
Duties require cross training in bookkeeping, health department
guidelines, and supervision. Duties extend within
assigned building.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms,
and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to
use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally
required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must
regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift
and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move
up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by
this job include close vision, and ability to adjust
focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly exposed to extreme heat. The employee is
frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of
electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to
wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and
extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is
usually moderate.
MENTAL
FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to communicate, instruct, and use
interpersonal skills. Frequently required to compare,
analyze, coordinate, compile, and negotiate. Occasionally
required to copy, compute, and evaluate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1.
Probationary Employee - first 180 days.
2.
Nine (9) month position .

policy on the District Classified Performance Evaluation
System.
