JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Paraeducator
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of an administrator
and direction of a certificated/licensed staff, assist the
teacher in the education of students including instructional
assistance; organization; record keeping; interaction and
communication with students and support staff, management of
student behavior; and classroom safety. Supervise students in
class setting as directed by the teacher or other staff. Assist
in managing classroom routines and procedures. Assist in the
interventions to redirect behavior; assess crisis situations and
intervenes to defuse situations; document any occurrences;
provide feedback to develop positive self-esteem of student.
Assist the teacher by supervising school activities on or off
campus during the course of the instructional day. Participate in
collaboration and/or co-teaching. Provide individual and or group
instruction which may include regular education students in
academic areas after initial instruction by teacher. Be assigned
to a regular classroom program where special education students
are assigned. Provide feedback to students and teachers. Assist
students with the integration into regular education classroom.
Evaluate student progress on work assignments and share
information with teacher. Assist the teacher with the designing
of instruction and follow through. Maintain high level of
confidentiality of information regarding students and staff
information and issues. Develop and maintain a professional
rapport with classroom teacher and other staff. Demonstrate
sensitivity to the needs of students, and staff.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have 48 college credit hours or pass
the ParaPro test or pass the Workkeys test.
INTERRELATIONS: Contact with all levels of personnel and
general public. Must be able to communicate effectively
both verbal and written. React immediately to an emergency
situation for the safety and welfare of the students and
staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work in various weather
conditions, (Supervision of students at recess.) Work in high
stress environment. Must be able to walk long distances,
respond rapidly in emergency situations, stand for long periods
of time, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach
overhead, lift up to 20 pounds, work five days a week, up to six
hours per day, or as assigned and report for work on time.
Attend meetings as required. Must be able to see and hear
well, deal with challenging behaviors of students and/or adults,
make decisions with limited information, handle multiple
priorities, concentrate on tasks, read and write.
NEEDED ATTRIBUTES: Exhibit a professional manner to all
customers of USD 259. Must have the ability to prioritize
and organize. Follow job site policies and procedures.
TEMPERAMENT: Ability to change assignments on short
notice. Perform under deadlines and work in a calm and
efficient manner. Work in a positive and cooperative manner
with others in the workplace. Provide a safe and healthful
environment for the students.
