About
E.L. Haynes Public Charter School was founded
in 2004 and has an award-winning program based on effective practices for
advancing student achievement. E.L. Haynes is among the top-performing charter
schools in Washington D.C., and is recognized locally and nationally as a model
and for our exceptional student achievement gains. E.L. Haynes currently
serves over 800 students in grades PreK-9 and continues to grow until it serves
PreK-12th grade.

Description
The Social and Restorative Justice Coordinator is responsible for developing
and supporting a safe and responsive school culture that reflects the E. L.
Haynes Promise, “Be Kind, Work Hard, Get Smart,” and creates a cohesive student
community that engages in routines and rituals such as All School and Community
Circle Meetings that build students’ positive identities and foster strong
relationships between and among students, staff, and parents.
The
Coordinator models social justice practices that value human rights and
recognize the dignity of every human being while utilizing restorative justice
strategies that encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and
foster dialogue between parties involved
as a means of repairing the harm done while providing students help in avoiding
future offenses. Using strong
interpersonal skills, the social and restorative justice coordinator connects
with students and demonstrates care for them while supporting implementation of
the school’s discipline policy. The
ultimate goal of the Coordinator is to work with school leaders and staff to
preserve the safety and integrity of the learning climate while maximizing
students’ opportunities to learn. The
Coordinator will report to the Middle School Principal.
Duties Include:

Confer with teachers to implement practices
that promote students’ sense of belonging and academic engagement.
·
Support the implementation of Responsive
Classroom and community conferencing, including co-facilitating workshops
during Summer Institute.
·
Serve as a member of the Restorative Justice
Team by facilitating professional development around building a culture for
restorative justice and positive discipline practice throughout the school and
in each of our grade levels.
·
Encourage and enforce behavior expectations
with and for students.
·
Document behavior incidents, conduct
investigations, and draft parent correspondence for the principal and assistant
principal.
·
Act as the point person for out-of-classroom
interventions, such as Responsibility Center.
·
Work with teachers and school leaders to
review student data, including disciplinary infractions, determine appropriate
consequences, and monitor execution of consequences.
·
Attend Academic-Social Student Support Team
(AS3) meetings when appropriate.
·
Consult with school leaders to develop and
execute a variety of creative alternatives to out-of-school suspension and
expulsion, including the implementation of restorative justice plans.
·
Coordinate with the social work team to use
conflict resolution protocols and coordinate and implement programs, such as
Second Step, that teach students proactive problem solving strategies to use
when facing situations that challenge their safety and security.
·
Help prepare for Comprehensive Student Action
Team (CSAT) meetings, including compilation of behavior reports and meeting
attendance.
·
Assist teacher teams in monitoring students’
Behavior Intervention Plans.
·
Implement other activities and
responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
The
Ideal Candidate will possess:
·
A strong belief that all children, from every
background, deserve an excellent, college-preparatory education, and are able
to succeed.
·
Five years of extensive experience working
with youth.
·
Training and experience working with students
with special needs or students who have experienced trauma preferred.
·
Bachelor of Arts or Sciences.
Spanish speakers and persons of color are
