PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide job coaching/shadowing and support
the transition of students with disabilities into
community-based vocational training, job experiences and
gainful employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
1.
High school
diploma or GED certificate
2.
Meet State certification requirements
3.
Minimum 48 college hours
Special Knowledge/Skills:
1.
Demonstrated interest in
and aptitude for the work to be performed
2.
Work well with students and adults
3.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written
communication skills
4.
Follow written and verbal directives
5.
Experience in vocational training and job
placement assistance (preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Assists under the
supervision of the Special Education teacher with the arrival
and departure of students.
2.
Works collaboratively
with the special education teacher, transition specialist and
employer/job site contact to facilitate work-based learning
activities and experiences.
3.
Works individually or
small groups with students to assist with classroom instruction
and supervises the transfer and generalization of vocational,
social and academic skills to the work environment.
4.
Reinforces academic
concepts on the job that are related to employment.
5.
Helps students take care
of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom
needs and personal hygiene.
6.
Manages student behavior
using variety of instructional and positive behavioral
strategies. This includes intervening in crisis situations and
restraining a student who becomes a danger to himself/herself
and others.
7.
Teaches and reinforces
social skills which are prerequisites to successful employment
and adjustment.
8.
Teaches and reinforces
independent living skills on the job and in the
community.
9.
Follows program
guidelines.
10.
Assists in setting up job
sites and transportation.
11.
Monitors and trains students
both in community job sites and in the classroom.
12.
Completes required
documentation.
13.
Participates in staff
development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as
needed.
14.
Maintains
confidentiality.
15.
Participates with on the job
training on the job site with student and employer.
16.
Performs other work-related
duties as assigned by Special Education teacher or Transition
Specialist.
17.
Performs duties in a safe
manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
18. Upholds and enforces school rules,
administrative regulations, and state and local board
policy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individual and/or small group student
supervision on the job site
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Contribute to a positive
working climate both in the classroom and the campus.
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and
pulling, frequent heavy lifting of students. Assisting
students in feeding. Changing students when soiled. Work
outdoors in various weather conditions.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, feeding tubes,
use of bus ramps, site-specific vocational equipment.
