Reading Intervention Specialist

Job Summary:
The Reading Intervention Specialist
supports Special Education staff with reading instruction,
intervention, and assessments and identifies strategies to
meet the reading needs of at-risk students through a
Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.
Assist with identifying professional
development needs and materials for planning and implementing
scientifically based reading strategies
2.
Work collaboratively to design literacy strategies
for Special Education and at-risk students
3.
Support the implementation of the Multi-Tiered
System of Supports (MTSS)
4.
Provide staff development in the area of reading
and MTSS for district personnel
5.
Model and coach staff regarding specialized
reading instruction for exceptional and at-risk students
6.
Consult and collaborate with general education
reading curriculum specialists
7.
Assist Teachers with identifying reading deficits
through the use of diagnostic tolls and through progress
monitoring
8.
Perform other duties related to the implementation
of MTSS and reading interventions
Skills and Educational Requirements
The skill requirements are:

Background knowledge and experience in teaching
reading to elementary students
·
Familiar with district/state reading standards and
assessments
·
Experience in preparing and presenting
professional development in-services
·
Strong organizational and planning skills
·
Ability to coordinate efforts for the timely
accomplishment of short and long term goals
·
Proficiency in problem solving and willingness to
perform a variety of tasks
·
Excellent oral and written communication
skills
·
High level of performance as a master
teacher
The educational requirements are:
·
Minimum of a
Bachelor's degree
·
Elementary
Teaching Certificate
·
Reading
Specialist Certification preferred
·
Minimum of 5
years teaching experience in USD 259
·
Additional
literacy training preferred
