Job Title:               High School Cafeteria Lead

Department:          Food Services

Reports To:            Director of Food Services

FLSA Status:         Nonexempt - At-Will Position

Position Status:     Full Time Position / 195 Days per Year

 

SUMMARY

Oversees and contributes to the process of serving school lunches in an orderly and sanitary manner by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work.

  Estimates food preparation for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.

Manages site operations for the purpose of providing safe and efficient food services at the assigned site.

Must follow the lunch program regulations as mandated by the USDA.

Orients and provides training to new employees.

Oversees production, cooking, serving and the transportation of food that is being delivered to other sites.

Prepares reports and documents (meal program reports, inventory, payroll)

Is responsible for making daily deposits, accepts all District deposits and makes sure the

  Armored Truck picks up.

Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding food items.

Oversees and assists with Catering Orders.

Assists the Warehouse Driver as needed.

Fills substitute positions at other kitchens as needed.

Fills SPED, Preschool orders when requested.

Supervises Cafeteria Assistants, Driver and Custodian for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.

Follows all OSHA and HACCP regulations.

Oversees and performs general clean-up.  

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May supervise up to 16 employees.   Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.   Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.   Ability to write simple correspondence.   Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, staff, and students.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.   Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.   Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock and toxic or caustic chemicals.   The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration.   The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat.   The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme cold.    

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
