Job Description for Dean of A Disciplined Life

 

Vision

 

Deans of A Disciplined Life create and sustain the structures, systems, and relationships essential to a  school culture rooted in positivity, achievement, consistency, and calm.   The Deans are responsible for (1) Student Discipline Systems and Structures, (2) Classroom Culture:  Teacher Learning and Growth, (3) Student Supports:  Interventions and Empowerment, and (4) A Disciplined Life Classes.  Each Dean is assigned 1 - 2 grade levels and works primarily with the teachers on that team; however, all Deans are responsible for the entire school's culture and are united in supporting a school culture rich in A Disciplined Life.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Ability to coach teachers around classroom management and the teaching of social emotional learning.

Job Responsibilities

 

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

Student Discipline Systems and Structures

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Creates and communicates school culture support systems and routines that support positive school culture to all stakeholders.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Manages the implementation of positive and negative aspects of the discipline systems. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->De-escalates and resolves student and parent conflicts by establishing and maintain healthy communication with families, including initiation of behavioral planning meetings.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Regularly collects and analyzes data to improve school culture.  This data includes suspension rates, detention rates and attendance, merits, and demerits.  Compiles daily and weekly data reports and sends to staff and leadership team with key findings and recommended next steps. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Ensures school culture of calm in hallways and lunchroom.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Communicates discipline issues with families, including notification of detention and suspension. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Works collaboratively with social worker, Deans, and other academic personnel to implement restorative discipline practices, including facilitating of restorative conferences with teachers and students and coaching of teachers in leading restorative conferences. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Administers school climate surveys and uses results to make strategic improvements in school-wide structures and systems.

 

Classroom Culture:  Teacher Learning and Growth

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Observes teachers and provides feedback using PLA's Culture Rubrics.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Conducts two grade level Culture Walks quarterly and invests grade level teachers in process.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Collaborates with Instructional Leader to evaluate teachers on Classroom Culture.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Provides weekly coaching of novice and emerging teachers in Classroom Culture.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Designs and provides Professional Development on PLA's Approach to Classroom Culture. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Facilitate "My Teacher Cares" surveys and support teachers with analysis of data and creation of next steps based on data.

 

Student Supports:  Interventions and Empowerment

 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Facilitates Discipline Intervention Process and RTI for Student Behavior Process, including managing Heart to Heart and Round Table meetings.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Implement interventions for students consistently struggling to meet PLA's discipline expectations, including Check-In Check-Out, Student Self-Monitoring, and After School ADL Class.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Lead Student Empowerment Teams that will foster student investment in PLA's School Culture, provide student recommendations to staff for improving PLA's School Culture, work to facilitate restorative conversations between students and teachers, lead student-run ADL lessons, and implement a Student Judicial Counsel. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Facilitate parent ADL workshops twice a quarter for parents of students on a Heart to Heart or Round Table contract.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Lead quarterly Leadership Retreats for students. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Facilitate school-wide celebrations. 

 

A Disciplined Life Class

 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Manages ADL  class, curriculum, and instruction. 

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Creates rubric to assess ADL classes and uses rubric to coach and evaluate teachers and to collect data to improve program.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Observe ADL teachers a minimum of quarterly.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Coach novice and emerging ADL teachers weekly or every other week.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Provide Professional Development to ADL teachers.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Work with ADL teachers whose classes struggle to meet PLA ADL Class Data Benchmarks to create strategic plan to increase achievement.
