SUMMARY:

Highland Park High School has a job opening for a College Counseling Assistant to work alongside the College Counselors in the Counseling Resource Center.  This position is perfect for someone interested in going back to school to attain counseling certification.  It is an hourly, ten-month position that spans the traditional school day so it affords the person the opportunity to take evening and summer classes while maintaining full-time employment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The College Counseling Assistant will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to managing the Resource Center, assisting students with applications and essays, maintaining Naviance (our database) as well as Parchment (our transcript program), and the scholarship data base.  Excellent communication, technology and organizational skills, and a genuine desire to work with students are required.  There must be a willingness to learn 'college knowledge' by attending college fairs, informational events and campus tours.  The CCA will function as a Counseling Department liaison to colleges and universities, and will provide students with information on financial aid.  Efficient record keeping is essential.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:In

  • Must be willing to work as part of a team to provide services to students and parents in the college search and application process
  • Must possess computer competency skills
  • Must be patient and flexible and able to work with students and parents in a proactive manner
  • Possess problem-solving skills and reasoning ability to appropriately deal with student supervision
  • Ability to set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

BA preferred.   Some experience with counseling or college admissions preferred.
