ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and
administer a
coordinated school health program.
·
Administer an
occupational
and physical therapy program.
·
Administer the
communicable
disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and
state
public health agencies.
·
Administer the
district
medical emergency response and AED program.
·
Participate in
an
accident/injury prevention program to facilitate school safety.
·
Assess the
health and
safety needs of the school environment in compliance with Occupational
Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, implementing the Bloodborne
Pathogen Control Plan and other interventions as indicated.
·
Participate as
crisis team
member and provide crisis intervention in the event of a crisis.
·
Participate in
the
development of policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates
and
current health and occupational and physical therapies practices.
·
Participate as
an active
member of the school and community health/wellness committees.
·
Collaborate
with the heatlh
curriculum committee as a resource and specialist in health issues.
·
Provide staff
inservice
programs on health topics including blood borne pathogens and the
district
exposure control plan.
·
Participate as a
member of
professional organizations and utilize continuing education
opportunities.
·
Supervise
screening and
follow up for deficits in vision, hearing, motor or sensory integration.
·
Manage health
screening
programs according to state mandates and guidelines.
·
Delegate
occupational and
physical therapies’ services, including assessment, identification of
motor or
sensory integration problem, planning and implementing interventions,
recommending educational modifications, follow-up and evaluations, and
documentation.
·
Delegate direct
professional nursing services, including first aid, illness, and
emergency care
of students and staff, nursing assessment, identification of health
problems,
referral for diagnosis and treatment, implementation of modifications,
follow-up
and evaluations, and documentation.
·
Establish a
medication
protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor the
effectiveness
of medication given at school.
·
Administer
health care
plans for students who need special nursing interventions during the
school
day.
·
Insure student
confidentiality of health-related issues.
·
Participate as a
member of
the multidisciplinary team in the identification, evaluation, and
placement of
students into special education programs, including collecting health
data and
writing health component as needed.
·
Recommend
modifications of
the school program for students who require accommodations due to a
health
deficit.
·
Maintain
accurate health
records to assure compliance with state mandates including
immunizations,
physical examinations, and medical conditions.
·
Maintain
communication with
administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians
to
enhance cooperative action and meet the health and safety needs of
students.
·
Initiate
contact with and act
as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the
private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school
community.
·
Provide
information on
health, motor and sensory integration to students, parents, and staff.
·
Collect and
analyze
epidemiological and health information and make recommendations based
upon
data.
·
Supervise the
collection
and analysis of motor and sensory integration information and the
recommendations based upon data.
·
Manage student
records in
accordance with Illinois School Student Records Act, providing efficient
retrieval of information and other related archival responsibilities.
·
Make
appropriate
assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated
reporter.
·
Supervise
district-employed
and contracted registered nurses (RNs), occupational therapists (OTRs),
physical therapists (PTs), certified occupational therapists (COTAs),
and
physical therapy assistants (PTAs).
·
Make hiring and
staffing
recommendations for registered nurses (RNs), occupational therapists
(OTRs),
physical therapists (PTs), certified occupational therapists (COTAs),
and
physical therapy assistants (PTAs) ba sed on applicants’ educational
background, experience, and professional proficiency.
·
Orient new
OTRs, PTs, COTAs,
PTAs and RNs in their respective duties.
·
Coordinate the
evaluations
of OTRs, PTs, COTAs, PTAs and RNs.
·
Purchase and
maintain
health equipment, OSHA supplies, occupational and physical therapies
equipment
as needed at the schools.
·
Manage and make
recommendations
for the health services and occupational and physical therapies services
annual
budget and critical needs requests.
·
Supervise the
distribution
of health services, occupational therapy and physical therapy equipment,
supplies and tools.
·
Prepare and
submit state
and district health reports.
