Mary Ellen Henderson Middle is seeking a School Health Aide.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Providing nursing care and physical screening to students; assisting in the maintenance and operation of a school clinic.
Cares for sick and injured students; informs parents for need of further care and treatment; documents treatment given on students clinic record;
Facilitates administration of medications;
Verifies authorization forms and medicines provided by parents comply with School Board policies; organizes medications to facilitate distribution;
Administers daily and as-needed medications;
Notifies parents on injuries and illnesses;
Reviews, verifies and documents, on school medical folders, new student’s compliance with state immunization requirements for entry into school;
Tracks immunization deficiencies throughout year and corresponds with parents; maintains tickler files for students completing immunizations; sends out letters regarding necessary immunizations;
Meets with Public Health Nurse to address problems or concerns;
Orders clinic supplies;
Maintains daily clinic log; tallies monthly clinic statistics;
Conducts various health screenings such as vision, hearing, etc.; tracks hearing and vision defects;
Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the common medical practices, procedures and techniques associated with a standard physical examination; some knowledge of the preliminary diagnosis of medical problems and the administration of medications related to treatment and first aid; ability to administer medications and apply therapeutic treatments as required; ability to follow technical oral and written instructions in exact detail; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with students and associates.
