Position Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Principal of the Capital
Area Career Center, the Culinary Arts Instructor will
provide a comprehensive and high quality program of
study which prepares students for a career, future
learning, and leadership in food preparation.
Qualifications:
·
Possess or eligible for Vocational Certification
in Culinary Arts.
·
Two years recent, relevant work experience in
food service and/or restaurant management.
·
Extensive knowledge of instructional kitchen
equipment, preparation of food for large groups, food
ordering, costing, safety, and nutrition.
·
Demonstrated competence with verbal and written
communications skills.
·
Demonstrated competence with problem solving and
critical thinking skills.
·
Demonstrated ability to use basic computer
technologies and software packages, including word
processing and email.
·
Ability to work in a collaborative setting with
multiple colleagues and partners.
·
Effective planning and organization skills.
Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
·
Successful prior teaching experience.
·
Successful experience working with high school
students.
·
Effective classroom management techniques.
·
Knowledge and implementation of best practices
in curriculum development, teaching strategies, and
assessment.
·
Demonstrated experience in classroom lesson
design.
·
Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Restaurant and
Institutional Management preferred.
Performance
Responsibilities:
·
Coordinate and supervise all program-related
student learning activities.
·
Provide high quality instruction in classroom
and lab settings that helps students develop the
skills, knowledge, and work habits required for
employment and future learning in food preparation.
·
Develop high quality lessons and lab activities
which provide the basis for rich student learning,
using real life experiences, outside experts, and other
industry resources whenever possible.
·
Manage classroom and laboratory spaces to
facilitate a high quality, safe learning environment,
including ordering and managing supplies and performing
routine equipment maintenance.
·
Establish high expectations and standards for
student performance, behavior, and safety; communicate
those standards to students and parents; and uphold
those standards consistently.
·
Assess student progress frequently, communicate
that progress regularly to the student and parents, and
make instructional adjustments and/or provide
interventions for students who are not meeting high
standards.
·
Adjust curriculum and instruction based on
developing technological innovations and employment
market trends.
·
Maintain records of student achievement.
·
Run the Sunshine Café, which serves
student-prepared meals several days a week to the
public.
·
Participate in program-specific and CACC-wide
marketing and recruitment activities.
·
Establish and maintain business partnerships for
the purpose of providing work-based learning and
continuous feedback for program improvements.
·
Coordinate and lead the Program Advisory
Committee
·
Coordinate placement of students in work based
learning experiences and follow up on their
progress.
·
Implement CACC and District policies in budget
development and other policies pertinent to student
programs.
·
Assume other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
·
Large fully-equipped kitchen laboratory
with adjacent dining area/classroom and office.
·
Noise level in classroom moderately
high.
