Reports to: Facility Manager Overview: This position is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating and supervising grounds functions including oversight of landscape projects, turf management, tree care, leaf removal, snow removal, and maintenance of athletic fields and irrigation systems. In addition, the Grounds Leader will assist in fleet vehicle, grounds vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications: - Physical ability to perform responsibilities listed below
- Neat and clean appearance
- Able to get along with adults and students
- Good moral character, honest, dependable, and courteous
- Able to follow instructions and must have quality of inquiring before taking action on items with which one is not familiar
- Degree in turf management
- Certification in grounds management, sports turf management, arboriculture and/or pesticide application, preferred
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Heavy equipment operation experience helpful
- Good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the work described in various type of weather
- Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment as required
- Must have or obtain a valid Class B driver's license and is insurable
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective relations with supervisor and fellow employees
- Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 75 pounds
- Willing to be trained as required
- Three years experience in professional grounds maintenance
- Computer knowledge and ability or commitment to gain knowledge and experience to use computerized programs such as email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets
Responsibilities:- Supervises and directs mobile and on-site groundskeepers
- Prepares daily, long-range and annual grounds work plans
- Assists Facility Manager in preparing and administering grounds budget for labor, material, contractual services, equipment and for specific site improvement projects
- Assists Facility Manager in hiring grounds personnel
- Plays major role in administering corrective action and dismissal of grounds personnel under his/her supervision
- Evaluates and records annual work performance of assigned employees
- Prepares project plans and supervises installation
- Inspects work of contractors and authorizes payments
- Trains grounds personnel in maintenance methods and standards required for the upkeep of the grounds
- Assists Maintenance A Mechanic in developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs for all equipment used and maintained by grounds personnel
- Remains up to date and informed in current practices and all local, state and federal codes and regulations related to grounds maintenance
- Attends meetings as required
- Assists grounds personnel in scheduled and/or emergency grounds work, snow removal to include possible snow plowing and other related duties
- Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures
- Establishes and maintains a system of records to include a correspondence file, a project file, a technical file, an update file, an equipment inventory, a history and preventative maintenance file, and a personnel file to include attendance and training history
- Maintains other pertinent grounds maintenance records including snow removal and tree care
- Participates in the District's computerized work management system and utilizes management reports to schedule, evaluate and improve plant health, general landscape appearance and work performance
- Performs other supervisory type duties as assigned
