JOB TITLE:
Northern Wells Community Schools Classroom Teacher
SUMMARY
:
Serves as a classroom teacher who holds the
necessary state certification for the job assignment and who
creates a program and environment favorable to learning and the
personal growth of each student by performing the following
duties:

FUNCTIONS
include the following:
1.
Implements the Northern Wells Community Schools
approved curriculum
a.
Teaches the curriculum based on the Indiana Academic Content
Standards
b.
Teaches mandatory curriculum required by state statue
c.
Aligns student assessment and classroom instruction with the
approved curriculum
d.
Uses instructional materials approved by the school corporation
and other supplementary materials consistent with the Indiana
Academic Content Standards to facilitate the instruction of
his/her content area curriculum
e.
Previews all instructional materials, including assigned
Internet sites, to determine their educational value and age
appropriateness before using them
f.
Plans instruction based upon thorough knowledge of subject
matter, the students, the values of the community, and
curricular standards and benchmarks

Focuses on continuous student achievement
a.
Uses research-based instructional strategies
that promote students' development of critical thinking,
problem solving, and performance skills.
b.
Uses an understanding of
individual and group learning needs, styles, interests, and
behavior to create an effective learning environment
c.
Develops and implements a variety of formal and
informal assessment instruments that serve as an accurate means
of measuring continuous student achievement
d.
Uses student achievement data to determine the
most appropriate instructional strategies to promote student
achievement
e.
Communicates with guidance personnel in an
effort to resolve academic, behavioral, and personal problems
that students might experience that would inhibit their
academic success
f.
Informs parents verbally or in writing when
academic or behavioral problems surface that would inhibit
their child's progress
g.
Is available for parent conferences during
regularly scheduled school-wide parent teacher conferences or
at a time convenient for the teacher and the parent or
guardian
h.
Collaborates with grade-level, team or
department members; other staff members; and the community in
order to ensure continuous school improvement

Maintains effective classroom management
a.
Exercises disciplinary tools that are outlined
in the student and faculty handbooks
b.
Administers student discipline in a respectful
manner (refrains from yelling, using profanity) that does not
demean students
c.
Refrains from physically touching students when
administering discipline
4.
Fulfills professional
responsibilities
a.
Maintains accurate student records as required
by the building principal
b.
Uses appropriate technology to maintain,
receive, and transmit information
c.
Maintains confidentiality, as defined by FERPA,
in terms of student behavior and academic progress
d.
Utilizes teacher preparation time for lesson
planning, grading, or other tasks that are related to
instruction
e.
Maintains up-to-date lesson plans that include
learner objectives, instructional strategies, assessments, and
standards taught in all subject areas
f.
Provides written lesson plans, seating charts,
or other pertinent information to substitute teachers
g.
Attends regularly scheduled faculty,
grade-level, team, department, or committee meetings
h.
Communicates problems or sensitive situations to
the building principal
i.
Submits reports, progress reports, grades and
other information by requested deadlines
j.
Issues and collects textbooks and supplemental
materials and maintains accurate records
k.
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to
protect, students, equipment, materials, and facilities
l. Ensures that all equipment is
secured when not in use and that dangerous and/or expensive
equipment is secured where it is not accessible to
students
m.
Cooperates with the custodial staff to maintain
a classroom that is clean and suitable for learning
n.
Supervises students in the hallways during
passing time, in restrooms, at assemblies, at pep rallies, and
assumes additional supervision when assigned during the teacher
day. Teachers may, on occasion, have some after school duties
that require their supervision.

QUALIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS
:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
:
Valid
Indiana teaching license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
:
Ability to read and interpret
documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively
before groups of children, parents, employees, and members of
the School Board.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:
Ability to work with
mathematical concepts and use multiple measures of student
data to determine student progress. Ability to apply concepts
such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to
practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
:
Ability to analyze and solve
problems and to interpret and implement a variety of
instructions and/or strategies in written, oral, diagram, or
schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS
:
Ability to utilize equipment,
technology, and work aids appropriate to the functions of a
classroom teacher.
