TITLE:                                              Special Education Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                       As set by state certification authorities and by the Caroline County School Board

 

REPORTS TO:                                 Principal

 

 

JOB GOAL:                                      To work in partnership with parents, special and regular education teachers within state and federal regulations, as well as in accordance the Caroline County Public Schools' mission and vision to maximize the students' potential for academic and behavioral achievement

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Monitoring

1.                   Collaborates with regular education teachers to monitor student progress and compliance

2.                   Proctors standardized tests

3.                   Completes interim and quarterly reports

Instruction

4.                   Instructs students in assigned areas

5.                   Make data-driven instructional decisions to improve student outcomes

6.                   Ensures that all students with disabilities are receiving accommodations identified in their IEP

7.                   Monitor progress (academic and behavior) of all students on caseload

8.                   Reconvene IEP meeting if student if showing sustained deficits in academics or behavior

9.                   Serve as a consultant to all teachers who serve students with disabilities

10.               Serves as a consultant to all teachers who serve students with disabilities

11.               Actively participates in collaborative settings by assuming co-teaching role

Case Manager

12.               Develops and implements IEPs with measurable goals

13.               Ensures that students are receiving the services outlined in the IEP

14.               Conducts IEP, re-evaluation and manifestation determination review (MDR) meetings within timelines

15.               Develops, implements, and monitors appropriate transition plans for students of transition age

16.               Provides parents with IEP objective updates as scheduled

17.               Maintains complaint special education student files

18.               Disseminates required information about caseload to staff members in a timely fashion  

Communication

19.               Maintains communication with related service providers, case managers, parents, administrators, and students to ensure compliance with provision of services, accommodations, evaluations and progress notes

20.               Acknowledges emails and voice mails within twenty-four (24) hours, excluding weekends, holidays, etc.

21.               Informs site based administration of any pending issues concerning compliance, instruction, or behavior

22.               Maintains Communication Log

Professional Development

23.               Attends all required department or site based staff meetings

24.               Satisfies Caroline County Public School staff development requirements

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:        Ten month year.  Salary and work year to be according to the current schedule

 

EVALUATION:                                Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
