Essential Functions:
Provides voice interpreting as needed.
Provides interpreting for school functions outside the classroom, during regularly scheduled school hours.
Serves as a liaison to promote good public relations between the deaf/hard of hearing students, hearing peers, staff, faculty members and parents.
Participates as a part of the instructional team to provide continuity of instruction for students as identified in their educational plan or as assigned by the teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing.
Assists teachers through use of sign language to adapt lessons and activities to meet the instructional needs of assigned students
Confers with regular classroom teachers and teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing in order to better prepare for the interpreting services.
Minimum Qualifications:
current Georgia Quality Assurance Screening (G-QAS) rating of Level III or higher in both interpreting
and transliterating
OR current national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
OR documentation of adv anced interpreting skills and qualifications through current
national certification from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Levels III , IV or V,
OR documentation of advance interpreting skills and qualifications through a current
Educational Interpreter Performance AssessmentS (EIPA) rating of Level 3 .5 or higher . The
EIPA rating cannot be more th an five years old.
