Duties/Responsibilities/Qualifications:

Assists students, individually or in groups, with games, arts and crafts, and athletic activities before and after Department of Parks and Recreation summer camp. Ability to relate to students, parents, and staff in a positive and effective manner.  Knowledge of working with young children required. Experience as an instructional aide in grades K-5 preferred.  Fluency in Spanish is an asset A mandatory training day will be scheduled for late June (TBA).  For more details see job description on other side.

 

Position Definition:

Assists teaching and administrative staff by performing instructional, monitoring, or clerical duties associated with the classroom education and behavioral development of students.

 

General Duties:

Receives oral or written instructions from the supervising teacher. Receives information from teacher concerning student’s needs. Organizes work according to school schedule or special programs. Presents subject matter to students according to teacher's lesson plan. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignment. Corrects quizzes, tests, and examinations. Assists students, individually or in groups, with skill development assignment. Drills students in school subject and in reading, writing, arithmetic and study skills. Assists teachers in the preparation of materials for instruction. Maintains student order in the classroom, hallways, school grounds, cafeteria, and restrooms. Operates a variety of office equipment to prepare, copy, and duplicate instructional and informational materials. Collates and distributes materials. May type reports, and routine correspondence. Reports work accomplished to teacher.

 

Additional Duties:

Monitors classroom in temporary absence of teacher. May relieve school secretaries or clerks in emergencies. Operates audio-visual equipment. Operates reproduction and laminating equipment. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of materials for bulletin boards. Assist on field trips and other external activities. Assists students who are ill or injured to obtain medical attention, but does not provide medical attention.

 

Supervised By:

Receives general supervision from a principal, and functional supervision from a teacher, who reviews work in progress.

 

Qualifications Profile:

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a high school education and some experience in working with children. Ability to relate to students, parents, and staff in a positive and effective manner. Ability to present lesson and remedial materials in a clear and efficient manner. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Ability to acquire skill to operate audio-visual, reproduction and laminating equipment. Ability to acquire skill to operate data and word processing equipment. Ability to type may be required.

 

License or Certificate:

Not applicable. Specific training may be required for Magnet School assignment.
