About
Austintown Local Schools
The Mahoning County Educational Service Center announces an anticipated opening for a STEM Teacher which will be housed at Austintown Middle School. A supplemental contract (5% of the base of the MCESC contract) will be issued for 3 weeks of extended time in the summer, which may include mandatory training, professional development, and/or STEM camp. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position, Collective Bargaining Unit through the MCESC.
Job Description: This 7th Grade STEM unit is a partnership among the Austintown Local Schools, Mahoning County Educational Service Center, and Project Lead The Way, Inc.
The vision of this unit is to provide the highest quality educational experience for students that
ensure creativity and inventive thinking through a focus on science, math, engineering and technology. PLTW provides project-based curriculum designed to challenge and engage the natural curiosity and imagination of middle school students. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in problem solving, teamwork and innovation as well as explore STEM careers. Project-based curriculum will be taught in conjunction with a rigorous academic curriculum.
Qualifications Required:
.Applicant must have valid 4-9 license in all content areas or (K)1-8 certification/license in the state of
Ohio;
. Must be a Highly Qualified Teacher in all core areas (Math, L.A., Social Studies, and Science)
Essential Functions:
. Work in a student advisory role as teacher;
. Participate in staff and curricular development;
. Use technology for teaching and learning in the classroom;
. Use data to make decisions regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment ;
. Be flexible and self-directed;
. Work with students in a non-traditional academic program, using authentic instruction, e.g., problem-based learning, project-based learning, inquiry, etc.;
. Interact in the school with Partners and community to enhance student learning;
. Work in teams and participate in professional learning communities.
. Willingness and ability to plan and develop new educational initiatives;
. Commitment to use best practices and research-based curriculum, instruction and assessment.
