Overview:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the special education procedures in SPECIAL EDUCATION.
  • Conduct intake meetings for students transferring into the elementary schools.
  • Facilitate and follow up on IEP meetings (at the request of the building principal)
  • Organize scheduling of IEP meetings and ETR meetings
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA for routine audits
  • Monitor and/or enter data regularly into database
  • Understand and communicate relevant data to teachers from various sources
  • Teach teachers how to retrieve data from various databases
  • Conduct training as needed
  • Work with data to identify and intervene for student needs
  • Manage new referrals
  • Check green folders for compliance
  • Identify professional development needs at the elementary buildings.
  • Monitor special education programs to ensure students’ needs are being met and achievement is evident
  • Assist teachers with quarterly evaluations
  • Maintain communication with guidance office
  • Monitor accommodations
  • Conduct case management meetings to update information
  • Attend monthly meetings with district supervisor
  • Oversee scheduling of annual reviews

Secondary responsibilities

  • Observation of students prior to change of placement
  • Home visits as needed (parent signatures)
  • Ongoing training for teachers using online IEP environment
  • Assist in the review process for transfer students
  • Assist with Evaluation Team Reports to determine eligibility
  • Assist with Student Support Team meetings regarding behavior and academic concerns
  • Review IEP files
  • Participate as member of the IST

Qualification:

  • Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware as a Special Education Teacher
  • At least three (3) years of classroom experience
  • Familiarity with IDEA (Individual Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Ability to organize and manage meetings
  • Ability to plan and initiate instructional and behavioral interventions in the regular classroom.
  • The position is temporary for the remaining school year with the intent to fill for the following school year.
