Job Summary:

 

Teachers must have a commitment to public urban education .  Provide instruction that utilizes a variety of instructional methodologies, including Project Based Learning and Real Life Experiences, to at-risk and behaviorally challenging, over-age middle school students.  Work collaboratively with the Alternative Education Department staff to improve students’ school success, self-concept, and promote positive behavioral interactions and manifestations.

Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION:   Bachelor’s Degree Required


LICENSE:   Must hold valid Indiana Teacher’s License 6-12 in Language Arts


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 year’s experience teaching secondary language arts - Have knowledge of communities from which students come  -  Possess good oral and written communication skills  -   omputer literate.  -- Experience with Project Based Learning -- Strong background in alternative instructional strategies -- Demonstrated skills in developing positive relationships with students -- Ability to seek and use community resources to enhance instructional program -- Expertise in parent involvement -- Experience in intrinsic student motivation.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  Be willing to engage a high degree of sensitivity and understanding of the behavioral needs and manifestations of at-risk students.

  Teach language arts and reading based on Indiana’s standards and the district’s pacing guide.

 Develop and implement content benchmarks based on the standards and pacing guide.

 Establish an educational environment that is invitational, engages all students, and promotes high academic standards and leadership skills 

  Collaborate with Alternative Education Department staff members to improve students’ school success, self concept, and promote positive behavioral interactions and manifestations.

 Develop and promote positive self esteem in students.

 Actively encourage parent and community involvement.

 Work with parents and involve them in their child’s educational process.

 Participate in summer professional development.

  Participate in the tutorial assistance program for students.

  Provide and support supervision of students as assigned.

   Attend and participate in school programs such as award dinners, parent meetings, and school-related after school activities..

   Participate in all required staff development.
