QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited university; valid Texas teaching certification in Math, Science or directly related field
  • Ten years of education experience, including five years of classroom teaching experience and supervisory experience
  • Ability to write, review, evaluate and edit mathematics and science curriculum
  • Ability to function effectively with all levels of management throughout the district as a supportive entity
  • Knowledge of appropriate instructional and teaching strategies and broad field knowledge in mathematics program
  • Knowledge of up-to-date mathematics research and technology usage in mathematics programs
  • Knowledge of instructional and teaching strategies and broad field of knowledge in STEM programs
  • Knowledge of up-to-date research and technology usage in math and science programs
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills  

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Set the vision and mission for the STEM Department including strategic planning for student success on district, state, and national assessments
  • Develop and implement all district mathematics and science curricula, Pre-K thru 12 and all accompanying resources and assessment materials
  • Provide materials for the implementation of STEM-related activities in the classroom
  • Supervise the activities of the STEM Department in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and supervise all activities of the STEM Department, including, but not limited to Advanced Placement (AP), Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and district policies and mandates
  • Coordinate all STEM Department functions with those related in special education, early childhood, multilanguage, instructional technology, advanced academics services, etc.
  • Assist teachers, central and campus administrators by providing tools and resources related to the math and science curricula
  • Support principals to ensure that the district's instructional curricular programs, assessment and pedagogical approaches are fully and appropriately implemented
  • Orchestrate and implement student mathematics programs such as Math Olympiad and science programs such as Science Fair
  • Promote continued improvement in mathematics science education
  • Participate in the selection of departmental equipment, materials and supplied
  • Keep abreast of best practices and developing trends in STEM and disseminate information
  • Manage all STEM Department budgets, purchases, and contracts
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisor
